Lacrosse guy, but no one seems to talk about sports here, so I guess I'm here for the political news? Maybe some finance and economics stuff too?

Starting to realize that the politician who said he could only lose if he was caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy was maybe not actually joking at all

Also unless I don't understand how the federal government works, the 2019 law about federal employee back pay was worthless political signaling back then and it's coming back to bite Senate Dems right now. The budget is a law, so it can change any previous laws

Maybe I have just been getting too much political news from Bluesky, but this seems like just about the worst possible way for this to end for Senate Democrats

Everyone's true "welcome to the Big Ten" moment is not when they win a conference title, or beat Ohio State or Michigan. It's the first time they drown in a bathtub at Iowa when its like, 38 degrees outside.

Now that it’s even more obvious in retrospect and happening again, I would really like to read something that attempts to explain why so many business leaders and other elites just completely failed to understand that backlash to Trump is what caused the cultural lurch left of 2019-2021

I hadn't covered a college game since Georgetown-Villanova on April 14, 2019 but the Hoyas & Cavaliers threw down yesterday & I had to be there. Couldn't have picked a better time to come out of retirement - here's my story for @insidelacrosse.bsky.social:

Started to notice that the issues that seem to end up mattering are the ones with the most actual outrage posts. Probably partially an indicator of the issues people actually care about and partially the posts causing more people to care
I remain convinced that a major reason for the asymmetry in politics is that everyone one the broad left of center has started just skipping over the getting upset part and right to complaining about the hypocrisy, lack of action, asymmetry, etc, but skips right over the initial reaction

AI seems to be like alchemy, get rich quick investment seminars, etc in that if they really had the good stuff, they wouldn’t be offering to sell it to you at any price because they would be too busy getting rich using it themselves

First @leaflet.pub post! I wrote about @noturtlesoup17.bsky.social having her content reposted and if there anything we can do with #ATProto to try to improve the situation
On Using ATProto to Improve Social Media Habits
Is there a way to encourage sharing original content rather than uncredited reposts?

Felt like an easy prediction we were headed for some version of a Woke 2.0, but I have to say, I did not have one of the big early moments of it being lead by the Disney adults

I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.

There is no demand for it and if it existed, all of my behavior suggests I would not actually use it, but times like this I really wish I got my news from a source that was several days late on everything, but carefully curated to only include information that was extremely likely to hold up

Soccer should move from halves to 22.5 minute quarters and allow unlimited subs during breaks between quarters so starters can rest for either the 2nd or 3rd quarter and the intensity level can be a notch or two higher the whole game
Everybody should absolutely view this as an invitation to drop your spiciest soccer takes.
lol I’m gonna need bluesky’s biggest soccer post ever to balance out all the politics engagement im burying myself under.

Nate was/is an expert in that field and he was right that communication surrounding Covid was pretty fucked. I understand him kinda losing his mind over it tbh.

It’s something more than this. Covid was a time when, among other things, the ability to communicate with a mass audience about complicated math became extremely high stakes, extremely quickly.

Health experts were absolutely dismissive of the idea that there could be experts in that specific field.
But -- and this is where I think Silver has a point -- Covid broke a lot of people temporarily. The public health folks saying the George Floyd protests were totes cool were also way outside their lane. I agree that Silver has overreacted to a lot, but this overstep was also real.

By far my strongest held belief on trans athlete sports participation is that is become super weird how many people are being asked to weigh in on the issue and then have their opinions reported on like it matters and is news
