Threatening universities. Attacking judges. Bullying law firms. Clamping down on free speech.

If it looks like it, talks like it, and acts like it, it is moving toward authoritarianism.

Canadian media coverage of the genocide in Gaza always starts with the point of view of the war criminals.
They treat the deliberate death by starvation of thousands of children as if it were some kind of natural disaster.
CBC coverage often sounds like it was written in the offices of the IDF.

With former Conservative Prime Minister Joe Clark.
I recently spoke with former Con Cabinet minister David McDonald about threat of toxic politics.
They are a different breed of Conservatives.
Trump is coming at us.
Poilievre's rage politics is corrosive to our nation.
We need to stand together.

I grew up as a Progressive Conservative…a lot of people who know me now, shudder at the thought of me being a conservative now…as do I

Western radicals destroyed the idea of diplomacy…so, many of us walked away.

The pooling of risk is a core foundational principle of insurance.

Paying risk premiums in line with the risk taken is another.

Forcing prudent home owners who buy properties in low risk locations to fund insurance premiums of home owners who buy high risk properties breaks the latter.

It’s so infuriating to listen to Doug Ford repeatedly denounce “illicit drugs” as if we forget HE USED TO SELL THEM.
He talks about housing and never talks about reinstating the rent cap he removed - a key component of the housing crisis. #onterrible Conservatives do NOT care about us.

I say we make the United States a protectorate of Canada with The Right Honourable Chrystia Freeland, P.C., M.P. as Prime Minister
Chrystia Freeland, staring down KGB and pissing off the Kremlin since she was a student. If Trump tries to invade Canada, this is Canada’s Zelensky. Putin knows it. Trump knows it.
This article from when she was a teenager tells you everything you need to know about how tough and ethical she is. Her time on wall street was just as inspiring, she had no fear going up against the wall street bros. Credit to Edmonton Journal May 20 1989.

"Sock puppets and traitors" 💯
Calling out Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives for acting as puppets for Trump's attacks on Canada.
They are predatory and pusillanimous.

The Pope presents the Baby Jesus on a kefiyah.
He has spoken against the war crimes being committed against innocent civilians.
Last Christmas Netanyahu sent his army into Bethlehem after Church leaders spoke up against the violence.
It was the politics of intimidation but people are not afraid.

Over the weekend, Trump gave his first interview as president-elect. He said a lot of horrific things, to be sure. But we know by now how to parse his bullshit. I break it down into bite-sized bits in today’s piece: https://buff.ly/41s4juw

This person has an amazing sense of comic timing, and perfect deadpan delivery "It's fine", and manages to make physics that I just barely understand extremely fun.

Unexpectedly delightful.
