Apple pie is bad. This is not really debatable. So is key lime pie, while we’re on the topic. Pecan pie is the 🐐 tho.

Th "there's no difference between the parties" bullshit got its start in 1968. Tom Hayden claimed there was no difference between Nixon and Hubert Humphrey.

Humphrey was the primary author of the Civil Rights Act. He actually did more for progressivism than the Chicago Seven combined.

In his first 2 years Biden got Congress to pass:

$1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan
$1 trillion infrastructure bill
The Inflation Reduction Act, which included a $370 billion climate initiative
The CHIPS Act
The largest gun control act in 30 years

Voters rewarded him by electing a GOP Congress.
It was a do-nothing president. Biden gave up on the whole slate of reforms that could have built a solid presidency and focused on things that didn't address Americans' problems, didn't improve their lives and were largely things no one wanted and about which no one cared.

OK, I'm confused.

Carville, by his own admission, is one of the key advocates of Democratic centrism. He's been vocal and visible about it for several decades.

And now Carville is recanting and advocating a turn to more progressive (and aggressive) Dem messaging and.... we're supposed to be mad?

Biden ended the "Forever War" in the Middle East and the Democrats got so little credit for it that voters did not reward his immediate anointed successor.
I wonder what Tyler thinks about Trump sending Americans to die in a pointless fucking war in Venezuela for oil?

The Ken Burns hip hop documentary would be laughably bad, even if well-intentioned... but the idea of him doing something on NYC 1970-1980 could be amazing, an incorporate the rise of hip hop.
I figure Ken Burns has one, maybe two big documentary series in him before he fully retires. What do you think they should be? My votes include Football, Hip-Hop, World War 1, Reconstruction (though Skip Gates did this one well), Iraq/Afghanistan, 19th Century Expansionism.

Yup. Dumbest Timeline.
A friend has alerted me to this pressing and very real international incident involving the very sane Candace Owens.

A great fucking movie. Alex Cox takes it some crazy places.
Good time to watch a film about a 19th century American dickhead who decided to Manifest Destiny all over South America (until the Hondurans caught him and had the groundbreaking idea to shoot him rather than send him home.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nn45...

I don’t care that Mamdani met with Trump and they had a cordial meeting. I do care that many of the people lauding this action were incensed that Kamala Harris accepted Lynne Cheney’s endorsement based on their mutual support of democracy.

Just remembering how one of the most important and widely read and dropped-with-maximally-damaging-timing "Biden is old and senile" pieces was reported by Nuzzi. It makes you think!
well, I read it, and the salient, non-gross part is Lizza alleging, midsentence and without elaboration, that Nuzzi ran numerous “catch-and-kill operations” on RFK’s behalf, which would give her a role in both his appointment and the untold preventable deaths he has abetted in office. Cool.

a significant reason Mamdani can get away with this and other Dems can’t is less that he’s charmed Trump and more that he’s charmed you, dear reader, which is why you’re not yelling at him for being a collaborator or an appeaser right now

He's like the Platonic Ideal of the Accidental President. He's a lot like Chet Arthur, both products of political machines who then found their moral character when they sat in the Oval Office.
He's probably my favorite POTUS for these reasons.
The least popular president in US history is not Trump, not Nixon, not Hoover, not the usual suspects...

It is Harry S. Truman. He had an approval rating of 22%.

He refused to compromise on human rights and championed civil and workers rights. And the American people loathed him for it.

Your reminder that the Tech Bros didn't have to be like this. Be happy.

I honestly think its more telling that 98 members of Congress voted IN FAVOR of socialism.

That would have been unthinkable even a decade ago.
this is strategically designed by Republicans to get Democrats mad at their representatives and a lot of people are falling for it
BREAKING: The House of Representatives voted 285–98 in favor of a resolution condemning socialism.

Eighty-six Democrats joined Republicans in supporting the measure, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

I'd like to amend this in modern times to be the Goggins-Guzman Rule. Though I'm willing to listen to other candidates like Benedict Wong, Joan Cusack, or Lance Reddick
Roger Ebert created the Stanton-Walsh Rule, an observation that any movie featuring either M. Emmett Walsh or Harry Dean Stanton in a supporting role has some merit.

so, those guys

I dislike whataboutism but Siskel & Ebert’s review of RED SONJA (1985) is an eternal television comedy classic. Laser timing building to an all-time punchline. 40 years later it’s still funny www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_fh...

I think it’s hard for people on this website to conceptualize these voters who a) actually do care about the economy, b)do not know ANYTHING about how it works, and c) rely on surface level signaling (look at all the rich business dudes!) to work out who is good at it.
Yeah, it’s crazy, I’ll admit I bought into the idea that Americans voted “economy” as a stand-in for racism or sexism, but maybe it really was “economy”
