Does anyone on here wanna do virtual co-working?

It was a godsend for me while dissertating. Basically a handful of internet strangers who were trying to accomplish a thing at the same time had a group chat dedicated to "here's what I'd like to do today, does anyone want to co-work for an hour?"

Measles is one of those nightmare diseases that, if it hadn't been killing people for hundreds of years, people would ABSOLUTELY be pushing conspiracy theories about right now. It's too nasty in too many different directions to seem natural. But oh, boy, it sure is.

Listening to people describing their "dives" into the Epstein files I notice that
1. Many, even media pros, lack skills for analyzing large not-indexed data sets
2. A LOT of the outrage content is based on the assumption that every claim/email/statement is What Is Now Proven To Have Happened

Not to be a hater, but as much as I appreciate the affordable housing activism folks, I have been in a lot of the "state of the art" dense housing development buildings built as "affordable lofts" or whatever and I'll be surprised if they're standing in 30 years

All of the reddit "am I overreacting" forum today is women posting their dumbass boyfriends absolutely whiffing it after saying they would do something for Valentine's day. Like, being asleep when the date time comes and asking why they're mad and acting like it never happened. Classic.

Yesterday the students in one of my classes discussed this excellent 2018 article by historian Chris Bonner which opens with this incredible story of direct action from 1837 that, sadly, hits especially hard in 2026.

It is hard and upsetting to sit with how inadequately small my ability to offer mutual aid is (especially money) compared to how many desperate asks there are. Even if I only counted the people I actually know who are emotionally regulated enough to make it go far!

Remember about 10 years ago when #archaeology tweeters called out one or more colleagues for legitimizing "anglo culture" bs? I do. Strengthening the scaffolding of white supremacy is not neutral. Hearing powerful politicians repeat similar frameworks is nauseating.
Trump nominated a legit white nationalist to a top post at the State Department. I asked him some basic questions about his belief in the “erasure of white culture”. Watch this embarrassing, fumbling answer. Like he has never before been asked to explain his views.

if ICE is taking your photograph, seems like one of the best things you can do in the moment is tuck your chin and look down. maybe that's intuitive but the tech does seem to be really weak at that angle, fwiw.

Keep an eye out anytime you see Sen Ron Wyden post a cryptic letter like this. It’s called either “Wyden Siren” and 100% of the time, we find out a year or two later that the government was engaging in some egregious privacy violation. He knows about it but can’t talk about it.
Cryptic letters from Senator Ron Wyden to the CIA director generally mean that the CIA is doing something very very bad, like worse than the very very bad things that the CIA does every day, which are already very very bad

Here's what DHS doesn't want you to know: Working for ICE is one of the safest jobs in America — and last year was the second-safest year for the agency on record.

And the doxxing? It hasn't actually happened even once.

Working for ICE is actually less dangerous than being an elementary school student in America.

Oregon, Washington and tribes head back to court after Trump pulls out of deal to recover salmon
President Donald Trump last year torpedoed the 2023 deal, in which the Biden administration had promised to spend $1 billion over a decade to help restore salmon while also boosting tribal clean energy projects. The White House called it “radical environmentalism.”

The amount of people saying things like "they must be using xyz because that teargas was different" when they experience double the volume of the same irritant in the air is frustrating. The acceptance of urgent tone of voice as evidence based info is frustrating. Panic-spreading is frustrating.
