For some reason, in my dreams we frequently have a pet cobra just hanging out in our house, and it is periodically my job to make sure stupid people or other pets are not killed by it

If I am ever struggling with starting a poem I have in-mind, it is amazing how often the solution is “make sure the first line is iambic pentameter”

one thing I’d add from my experience in student movements is sometimes the best way to make e.g. getting fired/blacklisted less likely is to have as many people publicly involved as possible
one annoying thing about the opsec discourse is its all focused on state surveillance when one of your more realistic risks is mass online harassment that bleeds into irl ie trying to get you fired

and like,,,there’s heres what you should do in that scenario or how to make that less likely guides

At some point, the fact that *over* 1/3 of gaming workers were laid off last year, and the fact that over half a million tech workers have been laid off over the last 3 years, will have to be reckoned with as a society, instead of being swept under the rug anildash.com/2026/01/06/5...

As a side note, it’s funny to see so many of these emails with thirsty academics repeatedly enact Marx’s bit in the 1844 Manuscripts about the power of money. “Oh Mr Epstein, your house in New York is enormous and, unrelatedly, your questions at dinner were so intelligent, so insightful, so deep.”

The discussion of Nvidia (and by extension, presumably other chip companies) is really interesting here for understanding the contradictions at work in our current tech moment

One of the best things about this episode is the attention to fractions of capital which are—and have to be—in tension with each other. There is no capital “T” Tech as there is no capital “C” Capital... Mapping the fissures, finding present and coming contradictions is critical work.

Obviously the Democratic Party is nearly worthless as a general rule, but I am unusually worried that they will be completely incapable of meeting the moment if they win in 2028. I fear they will simply allow the entire fascism machine to keep running under their noses until fascism wins decisively.

Some thoughts:

1. The deadline for nominating a person or group for the Nobel Peace Prize is Feb. 1.

2. History professors are qualified nominators.

3. The people of Minnesota have been awe-inspiringly peaceful in the face of state violence.

4. He would be so mad.
