Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world,... I feel like I can't take it. And my heart is just going to cave in.

These are professional engineers and builders who are taking on restoration projects that the governments won't pay for. There's definitely a great story here.

Upon viewing more closely, the film is actually about the takeover of the Pantheon, another action the group did around the same time

I read about it in the Guardian at the time and kind of went down a rabbit hole researching them. Check out the links to articles on the wikipedia page - it was a larger movement all over the world

Can folks do me a favor?

I was on Bluesky early & it was great. Mostly. I hit the eject button in January.

I came back, many colleagues are here, but still don’t know I am.

I co-created Halt and Catch Fire. I write TV & comics.

Here’s two favorite set photos.

Repost? I am in the wilderness.

Many #screenwriters don't understand what the truth is, about Park Chan-Wook & Don McKellar being kicked out of the WGA for what was apparently minor post-production work (permitted by the DGA). The WGA board is very punishing. Read the whole article. #scriptsky #moviesky variety.com/2025/tv/news...
Park Chan-wook Can Keep Writing Despite WGA Expulsion: ‘No Impact on Employability’
Park Chan-wook and Don McKellar were kicked out of the Writers Guild of America, but the expulsion has little practical impact.

Newsom v. Trump begins tomorrow, Aug. 11, as a 3-day bench trial. For the first time in U.S. history, a court will decide whether a president violated the Posse Comitatus Act by using military forces as domestic law enforcement.

Here are the key facts: (🧵1/9)

Good morning. Some thoughts about last night:

It’s a shocking thing when media get brutalized by the state, for a number of reasons, but it often shifts the spotlight off the thing we were out there to cover in the first place.

My evening started like this yesterday: a lively, fun march thru DTLA

Got some folks honking at the intersection, and cheering from the sidewalk. March heading into downtown now.

The unions. DGA. WGA. SAG. IATSE. We need to stand up for the jobs of those in the adjacent unions. No AI to replace actors. No AI to replace crew. No AI writing in scripts. No AI to replace VFX artists. AI tools only and only tools that facilitate jobs, not replace them. Together we can do this.

What kind of moves will stop it?

I *cannot* fucking stress this enough:

The threat of AI is *NOT* making movies for us, but the hundreds of jobs it will be able to easily eliminate from crew positions. VFX. Drone pilots. Color timing. Sound mixing. Clerical staff.

If we don't move to protect jobs NOW, they WILL go away forever.

Most of the justifications of the use of AI as eliminating gatekeeping assume that the young, inexperienced filmmaker has the ability to make all the creative decisions on their own, and that filmmaking is the product of one imagination
psychopompink.bsky.social
This article omits the crucial fact that filmmaking is a collaborative art. Someone prompting AI doesn't have the creative input of the storyboard artist, the DP, the camera op, the editor, the makeup artist who collaborates with the filmmaker, regardless of the tools used. I blame the Auteur Theory

THIS IS THE PROBLEM WITH MY PARTY.

I don't give a damn if former Trump voters "admit" we were right. All they have to do is realize that they can't pay their bills and they don't like masked thugs arresting people.

No finger-wagging. No "we told you so." Let's just win - and save our country.

My God.

This hit so hard.

Because you know what they're going to choose.

And it makes you feel like, as a species, we may be irredeemable. So many of us find just doing the basic decent thing an utter impossibility.

With Tom Lehrer's passing, I suppose this is a moment to share the story of the prank he played on the National Security Agency, and how it went undiscovered for nearly 60 years.
