Morning light
No baked goods no coffee
Once the scent of family
Now a house on its own
Cold pie plates
Silent violin
In the afternoon hushed voices
the polite scrape of chairs
Words of
remembrance forgiveness grace
Later the drive past the ocean
sunlight too bright, sharp
Sparkles in salt water

Thistlegrin & Gozzle.
Early development sketches of this troubling duo from my wolf picture book project this year.
Drawing the ‘bad ones’ is always the most fun.
More sneaky peaks soon.

I don’t pretend to know the science behind it, but it’s an incontrovertible truth that the reading experience is enhanced by a minimum of 63% when it’s accompanied by tea, pastries, and a crackling fire.

The Internet Archive just released tens of thousands of seed catalogs, spanning over two centuries!

They are both lovely and interesting. Check them out!

I have long wondered if you write differently on the same topic if you use pen and paper vs a typewriter vs a computer keyboard.

I don't know the answer but suspect it is yes, yes you do.

Having seen photos of skyline
From your point of view
In summer blues winter grays
I wonder what it would be like
There is pavement in
every place I've been
Curbs on which to sit
Staring at asphalt under my feet
Is your place different somehow
Because you are there
Because my heart

Flame is doing great! At 12, she still has a 5-foot vertical and can jump any fence. She says it’s because she eats a lot of bread.

Thanks, I feel inspired:

While trees rake carbon from the sky
and lignify it 'til they die,
eventually that heat's released
by fire or rot or gnawing beast.

But if you've got the clime to suit,
and want to see less top, more root
while storing carbon out the ass
you cannot beat a prairie grass.

Fiiiine, apparently half my readers enjoy an info dump, so here we go!

Grasslands Sequester Carbon Too or “Why trees are not the be-all and end-all.”

Ahem. *takes a sip of water*
I THINK they’re mad because of the hardscaping? Not entirely sure.

(One guy tried to claim it didn’t store CO2. Do you want a lecture on prairie carbon sequestration? Because this is how you get a lecture on prairie carbon sequestration.)
