So sick of fireworks being set off. Been going on weeks now. It used to only be legal on New Year's eve, but then they made it legal to set off 'category 1' fireworks all year round which means the Dutch set all fireworks off whenever they like, no one cares as is the standard cultural way.

I had a strange dream that all of us who are friends with the most wonderful @wombat37.bsky.social were all at the hospital to see him, but there were hundreds of us so we just linked arms and formed an enormous circle around the hospital and the city, to show our love. Woke up all tearful. 💜💜

#SundayPixMemorableFood Hubby made me a strawberry kwark tart for my birthday this year. He's NEVER done that before. I was very touched. (It's a box mix, but still). It's like cheesecake but made from yoghurt - Kwark is a type of thick yoghurt.

An ice cream christmas pudding. Cuz no one in my house is into Christmas pudding. Though hubby and I end up eating most of this.
An ice cream Christmas putting, cut open on a plate. The outside is made of vanilla ice cream with coloured glace cherries mixed in and the inside is chocolate ice cream with alcohol soaked nuts, raisens, sultanas and currents, mixed in. The trick is to get it out of the pudding basin it's frozen into. Dip the basin into hot water and then flip it onto a plat a few seconds later. Should slide out.

It's Oliebolle day! 😃 Hubby was up at 5am to go help bake. It's a yearly village event. Then they sell them round the village and the clubs divide the money. I've come home to find a bag of them - and his clothes to wash (stink off deep fat frying).
A bucket of oliebollen dough (like doughnuts but with bits of apple & raisins in). A large deep fat fryer with about 40 oliebollen cooking in it - round goldem brown doughnut balls. A thermal bag with three paperbags do of cooked oliebollen doughnut balls. An oliebollen on a plate broken open to reveal the doughnut inside, with some ice sugar shaken on it.

My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’
