the murders have occupied all the attention but the indiscriminate assaults justified by no conceivable law enforcement purpose are another thing
It’s notable that both of the killers were, with varying degrees of success, spraying irritants in bystanders’ eyes seconds before the shooting.

Reminder that, as of the latest reports, Liam Ramos is still in prison in Texas - now for 5 days.

His parents are legal asylum seekers with no criminal record.

we appear to be entering the "who do I have to fire for you to stop yelling at me" stage of negotiations, and when he makes Kristi Noem the ambassador to Bali or whatever I hope noone of righteous heart is cynical or gullible enough to treat that like a concession worthy of reciprocity.

regret to inform that today's edition of malort mondays with tony doukoupil has been delayed because bari weiss has concerns that a planned debunk of rumors that kristi noem's favorite winter coat is lined with human scalps rather than seal fur has failed to adequately convey the coat's cuddliness.

hey if you ever ask me for a 10 favorite albums list and my answer doesn't include each of Highway 61 and Black on Both Sides and Hell Hath No Fury, that means I'm being held against my will somewhere.

WMATA finally restoring yellow line service north of Mt Vernon two weeks before I move to Seattle is rude. like the sarcastic "keep in touch!" goodbye after sending a broken collarbone, a housefire and sundry lesser setbacks at me as signals I'm supposed to leave DC again.

The point isn’t that reading and literacy are individual problems, it’s that there’s a clear ideological project to end education and literacy in the US and it’s working. And part of that, intentional or otherwise, has been the hours people spend passively consuming content on the internet.

these two things feel conceptually connected. are we 'running out of good ideas,' or has 4 decades of unchecked private equity profiteering destroyed perfectly viable good-idea systems like news and health? how many data centers do we need to build to generate the Good Idea 'end private equity'?
