Just added several to my goodreads to read list. Excited to check them out. Thanks for sharing

My hill: kids are naturally creative and artistic. You give kids paper and something to draw with and you will get the wildest shit ever created. It's an actual tragedy & horrifically anti-human to be shoving AI on them and encouraging them to stunt that essential part of themselves.
Consumer-facing "A.i." in education is evil and if you push it on kids to make "art" you're hurting them.
I'm so so so furious at the future creativity and artistry that AI is taking away from all of us by convincing kids nothing is worth doing on their own
Whoops, just saw the “graphic novel” part of your post (was wondering why I didn’t recognize any of the other titles people were recommending). None of these are graphic novels; just really good middle grade fantasy series.

There are so many good series, but here are some of the fantasy ones I’ve loved:
FABLEHAVEN and then DRAGONWATCH by Brandon Mull
WINGS OF FIRE by Tui T Sutherland
RANGER’S APPRENTICE by John Flanagan
WING & CLAW by Linda Sue Park
NEVERMOOR by Jessica Townsend

To publishers & authors posting book covers: Please credit the illustrator.

Doing a #CoverReveal? Credit illustrator & designer. Not only does this help boost artist but it shows people that you hired a HUMAN artist.

Teachers: Please name the illustrator when you read to students. Discuss the art. Invite illustrators to visit. Show next generation that art in book was created by a HUMAN, that their work matters. www.picturesmeanbusiness.com/teachers/

I started learning embroidery this year and I find it very relaxing.
Great doc pushing back on AI integration in K-12 schools by tackling 4 common arguments.
The four arguments tackled:

Schools need to prepare students for the jobs of the future.

AI is a tool, just like a calculator.

AI won’t replace teachers, but it will save them time and improve their effectiveness.

Students are already using AI, so we have to teach them ethical use.

I’ve been part of the kidlit community for 8-9 yrs. When I first joined I was strictly interested in illustrating. Started exploring writing dummies 6 yrs ago. I don’t really know what has changed. During Covid illustrators were no longer supposed to send postcards but now they are back. #kidlitchat
It’s always interesting to me when someone says a book “is destroying” them and that means it is a good book. To me that means “do not read this book unless you want to be miserable.” Glad you are “enjoying”(?) though.
Tagged the wrong Jessica Townsend (sorry @jessicatownsend.bsky.social). Looks like the Nevermoor author isn’t on Bluesky
I’ve been reading and listening to audio books a lot this week as well (might be procrastinating 😬): SILVERBORN ❤️❤️, Book 4 of the Nevermoor series by @jessicatownsend.bsky.social and Books 4 & 5 of the Mistborn series by @brandonsanderson.com

I was at an amusement park with my niece last week and I watched a seagul swoop down and steal a mother’s entire cardboard tray with a burger and fries. The weight caused it to fall a couple meters later but her meal was ruined. She looked so broken. 😢

Rainshine. Like the way life is heavy & beautiful at once. This #kidlitartpostcard day, I’m finding sunshine in the people I love—I hope you are too! As an illustrator who specializes in stories about wrangling big emotions, I create characters who discover that small is mighty & tender is strong.
This illustration was produced as a sample for a picture book series OOPS & WONDER by Alexandra Osbourne about Pip the squirrel and his magic satchel. The author chose to go another direction. Here you can see the story text that would have accompanied the illustration.
Happy #KidLitArtPostcard day!

I’m Rachel Gozhansky, a #kidlit illustrator/writer, available to work on PB, CB, MG or other kid-related project. I’m also seeking representation.

I needed to read this. I’m definitely in the “this won’t accomplish anything” camp that gets amplified by anxieties of being in crowds and unfamiliar situations, but I’d like to get myself to show up to a protest tomorrow.
Such a fun interpretation of the prompt. Made me lol
Just saw this shared by someone in my feed and was like “hey, that’s @kristinwauson.bsky.social art!” Looks awesome, Kristin.
