South Africa wrapped up the G20 yesterday, framing it as a triumph for multilateralism in the US' absence.

South Africa offered a “junior” diplomat to hand the G20 presidency to the US acting ambassador at the foreign ministry. Foreign minister Ronald Lamola said: “We are done. It’s up to them.”

This story made my blood run cold.

Women lost their babies or gave birth to disabled children after birth complications that were completely avoidable, because they were scammed by grifters selling "wild pregnancies" and "free births" without any medical help.

This is just insane for a number of reasons. Why is it the responsibility of ethnic minorities to ask “what is the cause of our division”? Who the hell thinks this is a good stance to hold?
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood made more explicit her argument that when ethnic minorities face racism, "we have no choice but to ask: what is the cause of our division"

Her answer is the level of net migration, 2019-23 causes racism. (She on Monday said it was caused by the scale of asylum)

White House spox Karoline Leavitt accused South Africa's president of "running his mouth" and said an embassy rep would only come to the end of the summit to take over the G20 presidency.

South Africa said Ramaphosa won't hand over to a "junior embassy official".

This is incredible bowling from England. Been a long time since we've had a spell this good in Australia.

Ramaphosa just told an EU-SA summit that the US has changed its mind and they're now discussing attending the G20 "in one shape, form or another". No mention of whether that includes Trump, but his tone didn't make it sound like the US representation would be at that level

I love this profile of a thriving Chinatown in Bamako by @rchason.bsky.social. The presence of ordinary Chinese entrepreneurs across Africa is always so much more grassroots and diverse than people might think if they only read 'Belt & Road' coverage

The "protest" at the opening of the Museum of West African Art in Benin, Edo state looks bad for Nigeria.

The museum was meant to host returned Benin Bronzes, but now won't due to rivalry between the ex & former Edo governors. As a Nigerian friend said, "Who wants to return the Bronzes to us now?"

This is such a lame hit job on @meghamohan.bsky.social, who is an incredibly talented, sensitive, thoughtful journalist, unlike those at the Telegraph who wrote, edited and signed off on this.

Also, digging out an email sent in 2018? Extra lame.

Not surprising, but still such a huge shame. Teen Vogue did really interesting journalism and their US politics coverage was great
thank you for all the support; the statement from our union is now live here with some more reporting.

now that this is public I can confirm that the majority of today’s layoffs were women of color. there are no longer any Black women working at Teen Vogue.
