#ClimateChange deniers be like "it's a hoax".

FFS, the planet would be -18°C (0°F) without greenhouse gases and we've added 50% more.

You think it's not going to have an impact?

If you were comfortable at two blankets and someone added a third, would you still be comfortable? How about two?

I tried the Beyond Steak "plant-based seared tips" today. 226g package is about CDN $11. Probably enough for three meals. Taste is like beef. Mouth feel is somewhere between fatty chunks of beef and yuba. I stir-fried it with broccoli, garlic, onions, mushroom sauce, and tamari.

I ate too much. 😋

Hey America.

When you helped Israel do aweful things to Palestinians without consequence, you created a culture of permission - that the strong may kill the weak because they can.

That permission is spreading -

to America.

Why doesn’t Canada have an immigration agency like ICE? We enforce immigration law, but without routine raids, “papers please” policing, or an agency that seems to operate above the law. It looks like Canada is just more reasonable.

TL;DR: Dems made a coordinated move to end shutdown but risk giving up power if they treat short-term deals as wins. GOP's internal chaos is deliberate - it shifts power toward the exec and weakens Congress. The fight is really about whether democratic institutions or Trump chaos controls the purse.
Some thoughts on the CR/minibus.

1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins.

Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.

Americans sometimes ask how, as a Canadian, I feel about Mr. Trump.
I generally reply that it must be tremendously reassuring to live in an age when so many of one's national problems have chosen to manifest themselves in a single individual.

The Democratic Party created Trump. They slipped right with the Overton window. And with it, for many, the American dream dissolved. When there's no hope under democracy, Trump’s loyalty pyramid looks inviting. He shows that impunity can trickle down. That's a heady drug to a powerless person.

The poison of tyranny is not fear but permission.
When a leader teaches that power absolves, he releases millions from a burden of conscience.
They mistake impunity for freedom, domination for strength, and chaos for destiny.
So begins the undoing of the republic - not with tanks, but with applause.

Seeing lots of chatter about Mahmood Mamdani casually calling his close relative “Aunt” - which got folks pausing. But here's the thing: calling someone from your parents’ generation “Auntie/Aunty/Aunt” doesn’t always mean blood relation. It’s a long-standing cross-cultural habit.

Hi, I'm the ProPublica reporter who's been tracking an unusual stat: U.S. citizens grabbed by immigration agents.

I did it because the government isn’t.

This is what I found.

When I ran a coal plant we kept 7 - 14 days of coal in the pile to accommodate rail volatility. When we got below 3 we started curtailment planning to ensure critical loads were served. Anyway, please tell me more about how PV can’t work because it requires overnight on-sight energy storage.

I was told not to teach a class on the intellectual histories of Zionism and Anti-Zionism next year - not because they doubted I could teach it fairly, but because it would attract too many politicians scrutinizing the syllabus.

A society where that is a valid fear is no longer fully democratic.

I wonder about how full-scale wars like Russia's invasion of Ukraine are still happening. Why didn't Ukraine just put a $100 million bounty on Putin's head? Why isn't this legal?
