I really should get round to reading Lord of the Rings at some point. I did try once. I made the mistake of reading a collected edition, which was like 6" thick and meant I'd been reading for 50 years, barely got a ¼ of an inch through and they still hadn't got to the top of the fucking mountain.

personally witnessed something that brought me joy.

Every year, California's largest sheep and fiber festival, Lambtown, takes place in Dixon, CA. On the second day of Lambtown, teams of eight compete in a "sheep to shawl" competition, where the teams must start the day with un-spun wool and end the day with a 72" woven shawl. Teams may "warp" a loom ahead of time (where you thread the loom with its foundation of parallel
threads), but on the day of competition they must spin their wool into yarn and weave it into a complete shawl.

This year competition was stiff, and very very close, and the winning team finished their shawl with two and a half minutes to spare.

One thing I really like about the new office is it's a dog friendly building so my floof petting reserves are healthy. There's two adorable regulars on our floor, Bouncer and Pond, who is elderly and blind and needs a good sniff at you.

No clue what their humans are called.

My own 80s junk food white whale was this stuff, which I longed for ardently but was not ever allowed.

Probably quite rightly, I'm sure it was full of shit and likely tasted horrible.

A 1980s advert for Bird's Ice Magic ice cream topping, with the strapline "Ice cream will never taste the same again." Kicked off a nostalgic discussion of the terrible junk food of the 80s by mentioning Creamola Foam, which I wasn't Scottish enough to have tried in childhood. Might get some for the office though 😂
