Is there any more depressing story in urbanism than the fact that people kept cutting down speed cameras in Toronto, and then the premier just… agreed with them and banned speed cameras across the province?

Montreal gets a lot right. But one of my biggest disappointments of this city’s political establishment is saying “no” to an amazing automated train for the underserved east end of the city for largely aesthetic reasons.

Ensemble Montréal proposing to remove bike lanes in Parc-Extension. That’s exactly the kind of thing I’m worried about: sabotaging up-and-coming bike-friendly neighbourhoods.
Well, Querbes is very clearly at risk in Park-Extension (this here is from their city councillor). And all the District central bike lanes in Ahuntsic probably.

I *love* this new protected intersection. I think it’s the most exciting new bike infrastructure in Montreal since the REV Saint-Denis.
I sure hope there aren’t any major mayoral candidates planning to pause or remove cycling infrastructure. That would be awfully inconvenient right now.

Until recently you might have been able to find support in Canada for tighter integration of some kind.

Each time I land in Toronto it surprises me why is it that only housing options seem to be single fam house (80% area) or 50 storey buildings.
SAME units in 5 floors next to ea other than 50 ea other block.
Lack of vision & guts.
100% housing needed can easily fit in existing footprint. Q of life.
