Ugh. 17th and I? Stood on that corner so many times.
NEW: DC's Metropolitan Police Dept says it has one suspect in custody after a shooting at 17th and I, near the White House.

AP reports that two members of the National Guard were shot, which DHS sec Kristi Noem confirms in a tweet.

Jeff Mason of Reuters reports that the White House is on lockdown.

Alternating writing sprints with making pie today. Also picked up my race packet for the Turkey Trot. It's a good thing I'm getting some good sleep this week, since I think I'm going to need it. So glad I don't also have to deal with travel hassles, like so many of you are doing!

Reached 40,151 words for my #nanowrimo project today - less than 10K to go! The story is moving along at a good pace, too, so as long as Thanksgiving doesn't derail me, I should be able to make it.

I'm keeping up with #nanowrimo, but only barely - just 22 words ahead of par tonight. But, I wrote 1646 words today, which I honestly didn't expect to be able to do. Just one more week of this, and no idea what's going to happen in this story tomorrow.

since the "google is now training gemini on your email contents" thing keeps bumping around here: it's _not happening_. I say this not to defend google but because I know a lot of people that have broken their filtering and made their lives much more annoying from sheer misinformation.
The malwarebytes Google opting-your-emails-into-ai-training thing is not true. The post is based on one bad tweet.

I know anti-tech lamenting is a Bluesky core principle, but please use the same judgement you would for any other clickbait.

Read this and then: support the zines and publishers you love. It is tough, rough times for small publishers and zines. Do what you can to help them continue their good work.

Barely made par today, but I'm 2 words ahead, so I'll take it! 31,669 words as of right now in my #nanowrimo project. I finally had to skip way ahead and write a possible ending scene so I have some clue where this thing is headed. Hope to make some progress tomorrow!

I agree with this - it doesn't matter to me if their opinion writers are biased. What I want is accurate news, and both of these newspapers have it.
if my goal was to be well-informed of public health news in a relatively timely manner—which i have done professionally—i would recommend that you not stop reading wash post and nytimes. regardless of what you feel about the orgs, they both do a LOT of strong reporting you won’t find elsewhere

Another good #writing day for my #nanowrimo project -> 2252 words so far today, which brings me within about 750 words of where I should be. It's a lot closer than I've been for about 10 days. Catching up! And the story is cooking now, too. 😀
