Exciting #Arachnology news! It's been clear for some time that spiders have 'noses' on their legs but we didn't really understand how they smell airborne sex pheromones.

Now we do! Gabriele Uhl & colleagues have identified the sensilla responsible: 🕷️🧪

🌈waiting for the traffic to thin out a bit after the eclipse, I spotted this BEAUTIFUL rainbow scarab (Phanaeus vindex) dung beetle crawling about the clovers.

First time photographing a male of this species - note the large horn! 🤩

My first sighting of the beautiful genus Stenaelurillus, on some stony ground in our property last week. I think she's S. gabrieli but happy to be corrected! In the fourth photo she's feeding on a tiny arthropod, perhaps a springtail?
