Doing a clear out of my spare room which also includes the middle-aged man cable drawer. Bets on how many USB-B cables I find? Moved house in 2017, don't think I've culled any/many since then.

(I've found 3 before even opening the drawer with the cables in.)

I have a less optimistic take. We've made "racist" a bad word. But to many people it's only a label. They believe:
1) Racists are bad people
2) I am not a bad person
3) Therefore I am not racist

Thinking about racism on a deeper level would expose the flaws in that belief, so they refuse to do it.
Why do racists hate being called racist? They don’t respond in the same way to being called bigots or xenophobic. I think it’s because they know at some level that racism is fundamentally, deeply wrong, because even their broken moral compasses point at the immorality of it.

Can't help feel that these people obviously do on one level accept that trans women are women because only women get so blatantly disbelieved about our own feelings and experiences.
I don’t know enough about the situation with Lineham to opine on whether the judgement is valid or not, but everything about this paragraph in the BBC article makes me despair at how many institutions have been captured by the GC movement

I once live-tweeted our attempt to cancel a mis-sold Virgin Media contract.

It went viral to such a level that eventually the CEO had to call me personally to apologize for how fucking awful they are. Just to give them some modicum of a PR save they could use to counter the massive negative press.
underrated feature of old twitter was people with a decent following being able to bully brands into acting right

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

NHS 2025: a wobbly triadic stool and a gig economy
The NHS sits seventh on the list of the world’s largest employers, rubbing shoulders with the armies of China, India, and the US, as well as mega-corporations.1 It’s also part of the “gig economy.” Th...

The @rcphysicians.bsky.social have been important allies to the #SASsix campaign.

We agree entirely with President Mumtaz Patel in her rapid response to this weeks @bmj.com article.

Bravo!
‘Once a doctor has been employed in the same specialty by the same trust for more than two years, they should be moved to a nationally negotiated SAS contract.’

My lukewarm take as a now fairly casualty rugby union watcher is the TMO should only intervene for penalties in the "red zone".

If you've used your hands in the ruck and got away with it:
1) well done
2) stopping play detracts from the flow of the game

This is an extremely important thread for all of us in NHS secondary care and includes a great piece from @emmajourno.bsky.social and @abirimmer.bsky.social.

My concern is, as we try to stay off Twitter, these pieces disappear into the ether.

There was a valiant effort to make #MedSkyDebate...
1/ The medical workforce and the #SASsix, a Saturday morning thread...

The eagle-eyed among you may have spotted two related publications relating to workforce this week. Taken together, they paint a stark picture of the current medical workforce.

'My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius. Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Charlie Brown. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.'
We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like "I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive, Charlie Brown."
"One thing about living with Charlie Brown I never could stomach—all the damn vampires."

I am encountering yet more men on testosterone having huge heart attacks. Bear in mind I’m only on call 1/12th of the time (ie my rota has 12 consultants) and yet I’ve now seen 5 men in the last couple of months who’ve had STEMIs in their 40s and 50s. All very fit and *externally* in great shape

To add to this - it's not like the public is being well served by broadcast news moving at the pace of 24 hour scrolling and the politically obsessed - it just means every election large numbers of people end up googling 'what is austerity?' 'What is brownfield?' etc. etc.
This is bizarre. Like the editor of the guardian or mail or any other paper complaining repeatedly about the front page lead they decided to run with.

Very good example of what's wrong with broadcast news - they've given up deciding for themselves what is or isn't news and what the priorities are
It’s a sign of how insane the news cycle is these days that this historic failure of government policy got just one day of news coverage this week.

Not saying that’s right or wrong, but it’s astonishing how quickly the agenda moves on these days.
