It just strikes me as rather predatory. Maybe not always, but if these programs were good, they’d teach students how to query on their own.

This is so tricky, because it's fine to connect a writer to an agent who the professor actually knows.

But I often see this where the teacher doesn't even know us, and it makes the writer think they have a leg up, when it would really be better for them to query us directly.

Hey #amquerying writers, I'd really advise against hiring a service to query on your behalf. It's...kind of weird? to get a query not from the author? And I feel bad wondering how much you paid this third party! Regular querying is free.
