During a military-style raid on a building in Chicago’s South Shore, one resident heard a knock on his door.   It wasn’t the feds — it was a mom and her 7-year-old daughter, pleading for help.

He let them hide in his unit for the next 3 days.

it's *impressive* at first, and it has some real applications imo, but this spending is not based on the *actual* potential AI has. if it was, we'd see probably 50x less of it. it's based on the insatiable need for more. more more more. and tech with ANY potential gets swept up in the frenzy

a big reason why I think this is so different - and in fact, much worse - than the spending manias around crypto, NFTs, metaverse, etc. is that AI is actually interesting!! unlike the others, ChatGPT is immediately graspable and impressive to the average person

and the subhead helps props up a false claim this professor was up to something seedy as something up for debate
