For question 2, I wonder who, if anyone, was thinking/writing of musicals in the Great Parade of Musical Theater History way commonly accepted now. Maybe Gilbert Seldes? So many of the MTH surveys/essays I’ve read are post-Golden Age, when The Canon was coalescing.
I must have been about 8 when I heard “Something Sort of Grandish” on the radio; it took a while for my mother to find it on record, with a detour through Brigadoon. (Scottish? Irish? Same difference to my Jewish mom.)
“Friends" is a beloved American sitcom that aired from 1994 to 2004, following six young adults—Rachel, Ross, Monica, Chandler, Joey, and Phoebe—living in New York City. The show explores their friendships, romances, careers, and personal growth over ten seasons.

After being told for decades that reparations are a non-starter, Trump is about to give himself $230 million because our government tried to apply the law to him.
This is Mad King Supreme, my friend David Prum’s character. The costume is designed by Doug Fitch. Feel free to spread the image around. Re-caption. Laugh in the face of horror.

I'm so sick of discourse from supposed allies about where trans people went wrong.

Where we "went wrong" is that billionaires spent unimaginably large sums to attack us repeatedly and major media outlets have spent a decade piling on.
Just (re-)discovered on Spotify the arrangement of Jacques Brel's "The Desperate Ones" I made decades ago for the Harvard Din and Tonics. I think it holds up nicely. open.spotify.com/track/1Gyh3Y...

This is TODAY!

Fenway Health, MA’s “leader in trans care,” without any change of law or direct requirement, has made the choice to abandon trans kids to a sudden discontinuation of care.

We need to see folks out there protesting this cowardly decision today - show up for trans kids, Boston!
Which would be orange, in my universe.

I wrote a little about some of the little details you might have missed in this video and why it hit me so hard as a trans person this morning:

On the 18th we need to be vigilant for increased violence and provocation by both law enforcement and counter-protestors, both of which will be used to try to justify more violence and authoritarianism.
Can anyone recommend Bluesky threads/folx who are discussing AI/LLM in music? I’m following a lot of threads and reading a lot of articles but it’s all prose or visual arts. I know it must be out there but I’m not finding it. Thanks!

Folks — this is not a normal government shutdown.

Let me explain the stakes and how we got here.

Who has watched the 24 hour live stream so far that the house Dems are doing on the shutdown?????

This should be the biggest story right now and literally 45 people are watching

Happy birthday Leonard Cohen. His memory is a blessing, no “may” about it.
I just learned the phrase “kitsch Christianity” and will be deploying it in future. Also (unrelated, I suppose): is the product of generative AI kitsch? (See the definition in the linked article.)
"MAGA Christianity is not Christianity in any meaningful sense. It is kitsch Christianity: emotionally loaded symbols stripped of theological depth and deployed as an anxiety management system."
