Also, while implied, it also needs to be implicitly said: Not all people who get abortions are women and girls. In Canada, the rates of teen pregnancy in trans youth is same as cis girls. No data is kept on trans masc ppl which is unacceptable
“I was with you, until you said ‘pregnant people.’”

I get this a lot. I’m an abortion provider, and the CEO and President of an org known for abortion advocacy. Let’s talk about why I use inclusive language — and why I’m not stopping. 🧵
Excellent point. It’s more inclusive and it is also more accurate. All the more reason to constantly examine the language we use.
My solidarity with trans people isn’t at odds with Reproductive Justice — it’s integral to it.

I will keep using inclusive language. I will keep including trans people in my work.

Our liberation is bound together.
Are you coming along?
The same forces attacking abortion access are attacking gender-affirming care — both rooted in control.

We can’t stop at abortion access. We have to dig injustice out at the root, not just when it touches our own gardens.
Abortion is health care — but it’s also about bodily autonomy, self-determination, and the right to shape our own futures.

Trans people are in a parallel, interconnected fight.
Pregnant women are people. “Pregnant people” doesn’t erase cis women’s experiences with pregnancy — it expands the frame.

It helps make all reproductive health safer and more accessible for everyone.
Many people still think of this work as “women’s rights.” They worry that saying “pregnant people” dilutes the fight for abortion access.

If that’s where you’re coming from, I hear you. And I offer this:
“I was with you, until you said ‘pregnant people.’”

In my piece for @thenation.com , I wrote about what this means for providers and communities: how federal control shows up in exam rooms, on our streets, and in daily life.
This is Hyde in action. It’s not theoretical — it’s lived reality. Every day, patients in DC are told their health, their choices, and their futures are subject to federal politics.
For nearly 50 years, the Hyde Amendment has been used to deny people with public insurance the ability to access abortion care.

In DC, the Dornan Amendment takes it a step further: it strips an entire city of the right to use its own funds to take care of its residents when the government fails.

Science, not politics, should guide medical care. Yet the Trump administration and RFK Jr. are spreading false claims about Tylenol that create fear and confusion for pregnant patients. Know this: The science is settled. Tylenol is safe in pregnancy.

Thank you for having me @msnbc.com.
Our patients trust us to protect their health and dignity. Political assaults like those from RFK Jr. and the Trump administration only heighten obstetric pain and violence and endanger lives. As physicians, we stand by the evidence: Tylenol is safe. @prh.org
Trump, citing no evidence at all, suggests Tylenol during pregnancy is linked to autism

He says the FDA will recommend pregnant women avoid using the painkiller unless “medically necessary"

‼️THIS IS NOT A DRILL! Congress is one House vote away from passing Trump's “big beautiful bill”—a federal government funding bill that would destroy Medicaid and DEVASTATE reproductive health care across the country, forcing Planned Parenthood's vital health centers to close.
These are the conditions that demand our resilience, interdependence, and bravery.

It’s a call I intend to answer.

Will you?
You don’t need to be a doctor to know what happens when clinics close.

Those experiencing poverty, living in rural areas, Black and Indigenous People of Color, and those of LGBTQIA2S+ experience will be impacted most — impacting their dignity and ability to live healthy lives.
Nearly 200 health centers are now at risk of closing. Many in states where abortion is still legal.

They aren’t even brave enough to tell you what it’s really about: control. About punishing people for seeking care and making it harder to access birth control, cancer screenings, abortion, + more.
Another attack on our rights, another attempt to dismantle access to essential health care. The Senate's vote to "defund" Planned Parenthood is a backdoor abortion ban with real and devastating consequences.
