I think it's a little deeper than that. I think it was a time they felt they were a part of something. The word means more than just the fact they use it it has roots to where they found themselves. As weird as that sounds, but hey if it were some Japanese people, my name would never be Resi.

Here at the end of the information age, I think the thing AI has shown beyond a reasonable doubt is that those developing technology have a responsibility to ask themselves how it can be used to do harm.
