Lemurs’ vaginas have no permanent opening. For 24 to 72 hours in July of a good year, their vagina will open, there’s a brief frenzy of mating and then they close up again.

Some of the best people I know are former theatre kids.
The right wing approach now is to put me in a box with an incredibly successful politician who just won a stunning victory.

This is Pure Cope Exhibit A

Who on earth are these 4,000 people because the combination of the three would make me feel extremely well-off.
"The polling of more than 4,000 people suggested that owning a house outright, having more than £1 million in cash savings and earning a six-figure salary were unlikely to make us feel well-off." [Times]

If I was devising a set of announcements to elevate (but not satisfy) the hard right, alienate the middle ground and completely discourage your base, I couldn’t come up with a much better strategy than McSweeney and Number 10

Fantastic to see my local Labour MP speaking out about the reforms to the asylum system. I have always found Stella to have integrity & compassion. I have to wonder how long she will remain in the Labour party since her party has deserted these elements in their policies & she calls them out on this
Plans to leave refugees in a state of perpetual uncertainty about where and if they can rebuild their lives are not just performative cruelty, they are counterproductive to integration and the economy. It doesn’t have to be like this - 1/2

And the Church of England wonders why their numbers are declining.
"Dedicated ceremonies in which same-sex couples receive a priest’s blessing must not to look like “a wedding is taking place” or send the signal that gay relationships are “equivalent to marriage” in the eyes of the church, the guidance has warned."

For reasons I can't explain I am absolutely exhausted today. My brain feels like it is struggling through molasses. If I had my way, I would take the rest of the day off and spend it snoozing on the couch.

This is a new low from a govt plumbing the depths of performative cruelty in hopes that the public won’t notice they have no answers to the real issues facing this country

A sensible, humane govt would focus on safe routes to prevent people making dangerous small boat crossings

Can someone ask the Labour minister if they are also going to take people’s gold teeth?

Labour policy is being celebrated by Tommy Robinson.

That's it.

That's all you ever need to say to explain who Labour are.

Okay, let's heal the rift with some gentle humour:

How many Labour MPs does it take to change a light bulb?

Two. One to change the lightbulb, the other to ask Nigel Farage if he needs anything else doing around Number 10 before he moves in.

I struggle to see why turning ourselves into a society so unwelcoming that even those afraid for the lives are deterred from coming is something we would actually *want*.

What seems to be missing from the entire asylum conversation is that if you want to claim asylum in the UK you have to physically be in the UK. This is why we have a "small boats problem". If you want to get rid of people smugglers you have to give people a safe & legal route to asylum.
Putting the utter horror of taking things from people who have lost everything aside for a second, these people have sold everything to pay the boat gangs. If you want their valuables you should reopen all the old legal asylum routes and get in ahead of the other bastards.
The Sun has been told Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood will on Monday propose confiscating jewellery, watches, necklaces from asylum seekers to meet asylum costs

This reflects the most controversial aspect of the Danish scheme - the Jewellery Law. The toughest Labour MPs thought this was OTT

If this is what the Home Secretary announces today then it is a sign of how inhumane and callous the Labour Party has become.
If this really is what is being proposed, I think adding the jewellery confiscation policy + the 20 year policy could kick off the kind of PLP revolt that (without rapid u-turn) could entirely destabilise a struggling government that risks falling over on every front

Small boat migrants to have jewellery & assets seized to pay for accommodation
ILLEGAL migrants’ valuables such as jewellery and watches will be seized and sold to pay towards their accommodation costs, The Sun can reveal today. Necklaces and chains — but not wedding rings — …

Feeling really confident to be going through the UK immigration system with a Home Secretary who is inspired by Kristi Noem (sarcasm).
It appears that our Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, has been inspired by Kirsti Noem - and finds her to have an “under appreciated intellect and eye for detail” and is now following her lead.

Isn’t that just utterly horrifying.

Of all Starmer’s picks for cabinet, she has to be the worst.
