Richard's stupid thread of stuff to ignore

I showed my son a video on my phone and that fucking ad autoplayed after it.
Fuck those ads and fuck YouTube for autoplaying them.

I bet his party invitations and shady donations are both drying up and he's looking forward to a long lonely retirement

People joke about "X was load bearing for society" but I genuinely wonder if delayed parenthood has been more disruptive than anyone anticipated.
Not that we could or should go back but a bunch of people now have time and energy and are choosing terrible outlets

Academic lab leak theory: there are a lot of ideas that are useful or even true within the ivory tower which are nonetheless invasive and disruptive if brought into the wider discourse ecosystem

People saying GOP will fuck with elections clearly don't live in the places where there are long lines every single year, and people who care about democracy more than internet clout stand in those lines to cast their votes

when I ask myself which American electorate is most similar to the one in New York City the only answer I can come up with is Maine's statewide electorate

Dr. Google MD calls it happiness anxiety
An anxious person's response to good news
I can't tell from a quick search if this has been studied or is an accepted definition (tentative answer: no)
But social media is always changing our brains in exciting new ways!

"But if all the roads arrive at the same place at the same time, then aren't they all the right way?" asked Milo.

"Certainly not!" he shouted, glaring from his most upset face. "They're all the wrong way. Just because you have a choice, it doesn't mean that any of them has to be right."

There will be a window of time where many people want the same thing (e.g. R rated Jurassic Park) but if 1 person makes it they can't share it bc copyright. So each different person who wants it will feed in the same prompt and it will be generated the same way over and over.

I'm looking forward to the day when one of my sons sets me up to answer "I diapered your bottom, I bloody well ought to"

I know the pattern you describe isn't really a recent phenomenon but it does highlight the extent to which the GOP is first and foremost a media/persuasion machine that happens to have swallowed a political party

Rich media people and their friends were beating the tariffs by flying to Europe and smuggling stuff back
A flight delay of just a couple hours makes a weekend shopping trip much less fun

The was a big building by the freeway near San Francisco that everyone just walked away from
Girders and some concrete and tarps flapping in the wind for years

If Dems had put forward a package with liberal priorities only and zero carrots for the right
Like more judges and faster paperwork etc
It would have motivated 10 GOP voters to come out for every Dem vote it earned
I hate this fact but it's the world we live in
richardr.bsky.social
Bunch of people are now committed to "we should get everything we want and our political rivals should get nothing"

Like, Dems voted for ICE funding as part of a compromise. These dipshits know "zero compromise" is unpopular so they blatantly lie by omission.

"Isn't that lovely? It's my favorite program-fifteen minutes of silence-and after that there's a half hour of quiet and then an interlude of lull. Why, did you know that there are almost as many kinds of stillness as there are sounds? But, sadly enough, no one pays any attention to them these days.”

I'm also curious about ivermectin and stimulant use

Guessing some will try to blame stimulants for their behavior

And I think there are pundits who look at a quote, look at the byline, and know who the source is. But if you're one of these people and you don't name names you're part of the problem.

This was meant as criticism of Morris and the Van Hollen interview he quotes. If there are people we should be suspicious of you need to name them. Nobody outside DC knows them.

"I understand normie voters" is undercut by "I can name 10 Democratic strategists and recite my various grudges against each"
