Richard with an excellent example of how all communities benefit from how Black people seek to protect ourselves. Solidarity is the way.

A lot of the work being done that will benefit members of Latinsky is coming from @blackskyweb.xyz.

Pitch in to help build a better & safer social media space.

It definitely beats spending $7 on a PSL.

Our Barrio is one of many, and en la comunidad hay fuerza.

We encourage our Latinsky familia to donate to @blackskyweb.xyz to help build a better and more democratized future for social media.

When #Blacksky succeeds, all of us succeed.

1. accessible breakdown of the technical context
2. Set expectations for what will and won’t happen, including timelines
3. took the time to figure it out instead of just reacting
4. pointed to where evolving documentation can be found instead of just replying to individual people

I hear and see your concerns. Over the weekend, a couple users hosted on Blacksky's PDS were banned from the Bluesky app and thus the Bluesky API servers. This was a weakness of our system I've been aware of and hoped we had more time to address before any kind of public incident. 1/11

How that action takes form in the future is difficult to know for certain, but I think there’s a lot of stakeholders (feed developers are one I can think of off the top of my head) who have a pretty powerful voice on this platform.

Moving forward we shouldn’t forget that.

There’s lots of reasons I didn’t appreciate the “posters strike” joke Jay made a few days ago, but it’s important to remember that it being brought up is actually proof that it worked!

Collective action of the community *does* move the needle even if people in power want to trivialize it.

I think the work being done on a lot of fronts to expand the AT protocol is essential and necessary work, but I think we’re missing an opportunity not just focus on the tech and to challenge the leadership to start communicating with us like we’re a union.

Our very presence here is work that is in service of building decentralized social media, we’re helping build community and in doing so helping Bluesky.

The immediate answer to current issues isn’t JUST the protocol & PDS migration.

That’s building a fire station when the fire is happening.

The current comm issues with Bluesky’s team reminds me a lot of working in a space where we don’t have collective bargaining.

Our work benefits leadership, but we also don’t have effective lines of communication with Bluesky where we feel concerns are seriously addressed.

I recognize that what yall are doing is immensely difficult - you’re challenging a social paradigm that has existed for nearly 2 decades & that involves a lot of energy, resources, & risk.

I just think we’re missing a lot of opportunities to more effectively communicate as a collective community.
richferro.com
If the community is in crisis, the answer isn’t to prioritize building the fire station, but to recognize that there’s already tools available to effectively put those fires out while also continuing to build out the resources that will make navigating these issues easier in the future.
