Millennial (sorry) with AuDHD (not sorry). A volleyball anime saved my life and made me unashamedly cringe. Red panda on the other place. Probably your only Melanau friend. https://ko-fi.com/rincredible

I weep for the day when this post will be screenshotted for its harrowingly accurate foresight but I nevertheless have a moral responsibility to say it: all Labubus will detonate on Christmas morning 2025.

Briefly went to the Other Place to check on some fandom stuff by people who haven't moved from there and whew so much random bigotry and racism in Twitterjaya. I'm going to dissociate and listen to murder podcasts or something.

Every time someone tries to argue that being gay is a choice I'm like... do you really think I chose to be a man-liking afab? Who would knowingly choose this level of hell!

Eating some spag with a really basic tomato sauce that I made to use up some slightly too soft tomatoes, added scrambled eggs because I need the protein (and also because tomato egg is amazing)

THE DEAD NAME 🪦 page 1/31

Born with supernatural sight and abilities, 14-year-old Jordan Kwon runs an exorcism charity to fulfill her community service requirements. On her latest mission, Jordan must confront something far scarier than the undead: coming out as trans.

#comic #trans #lgbtcomic
A black and white comic page numbered [01.] We open on a lone car travelling along a road lined with brush and evergreen trees.
An unseen speaker, from inside the car: [Hey, how much money do exorcists make?]
Cut to interior of the car. The speaker is the driver, a young woman with black hair with a dyed underlayer. She wears stud earrings and an over-sized sweater, an easygoing but mischievous smile on her face. Her companion slouches in the passenger seat, an androgynous teenager with shaggy dark hair and a t-shirt over a striped long-sleeve. They look out the window at the passing trees.
Driver: [When your clients pay you, I want a cut for the gas money. (This place is far.)]
A callout identifies the driver as [Stephanie Kwon: she/her, university student, 19.]
The passenger turns from the window, looking at Stephanie with a disinterested expression.
Passenger: [Nuna, it’s a charity. They don’t pay me.]
Author’s Note: [Nuna: Korean for “older sister, used by younger males.]
Stephanie: [HUH!? Why not?]
Passenger: [Child labor laws.]
A callout identifies the passenger as [Jordan Kwon: she/they (undercover as he/him), nonprofit exorcist, 14]
Stephanie glances critically at Jordan through the rear view mirror.
Stephanie: [Then why did we come all this way?]
Jordan earnestly holds up a sheet of paper and points to it.
Jordan: [Because it fulfills my community service requirement for student council.]

Nothing says ‘interesting film’ than the HK government banning it for national security reasons

Miyazaki survived the bombing of Utsunomiya as a child. His family escaped in a car, but left a neighbor and her daughter behind to save themselves. Miyazaki regrets this, and said this has stayed with him and shaped his film making. He hopes his audience will learn the courage he lacked in 1945.

Piggybacking off your great post: those old blankets and towels with hair dye stains and little rips can have a new home with animal shelters this time of year too. They also need warmth, and they dont care about those little stains and small tears.

Maybe my desire to get and use an ita bag is like a midlife crisis thing because we all know none of the millennials can afford to get a sports car or a superbike or a holiday home or a new spouse as a midlife crisis. It's just going to be anime merch and games on Steam that we'll never play

Some can I think. There's a few Japanese brands that have a takoyaki plate, and a lot of China arms Europe ones have a pancake plate.

So anyway I now have a toastie maker, suggestions welcome!

Also, as always, I love the Internet Archive @archive.org

I knew I had hit the mother lode when the first recipe in the book was this beautifully unhinged thing (I mean, who in this day and age would think to make this in a toastie maker?):
A recipe for spinach oyster tarts. To make it, leftover cooked spinach is beaten with cream and seasoned with salt and pepper. Shortcrust pastry triangles are then pressed into the preheated toastie maker and topped with the spinach, some canned smoked oysters, and grated gruyère cheese. These are then topped with another layer of shortcrust pastry before the toastie maker is closed to bake the tarts.

A note at the end of the recipe says that this recipe can be made with bread, and that either way it would make an excellent accompaniment to grilled ham steaks.

First stop was Reddit and honestly kind of boring, but then again serious food reddit isn't very exciting or inventive to begin with. Still, do better!

Next stop was Internet Archive, where I found one of those recipe books they gave out with a purchase of something called a Snackster.

Problem 2: Me hating the idea of a single use appliance.

This was an easy fix; I just narrowed the search down to a toastie maker with interchangeable plates so I could at least attempt a waffle or something.

BUT ALSO! I went looking for ideas of what else to make in a toastie maker.
rinwrites.bsky.social
Problem 1: All the toastie makers that do the sealed edges made 4 triangle toasties. I wanted something more like the one pictured, but they were all basically just square panini presses (YES THERE'S A DIFFERENCE)
A sandwich press that makes just two triangle toasties.

I've been trying to find things that give me a tiny bit of joy lately, to stave off the SAD, and I don't know how I got the idea but I thought that getting a toastie maker would help. The basic ones are really cheap, and I figure even if I only really use it for a week it wouldn't be such a waste.

By toastie I mean the ones made in a toastie/jaffle press, where it seals the triangles. I haven't had one since I left school, and when I got my own place I reasoned that I could just make grilled cheeses on a pan instead of buying the ridiculous Tefal Snack thing I wanted (also I was/am poor lol).
