Millennial (sorry) with AuDHD (not sorry). A volleyball anime saved my life and made me unashamedly cringe. Red panda on the other place. Probably your only Melanau friend. https://ko-fi.com/rincredible

Miyazaki survived the bombing of Utsunomiya as a child. His family escaped in a car, but left a neighbor and her daughter behind to save themselves. Miyazaki regrets this, and said this has stayed with him and shaped his film making. He hopes his audience will learn the courage he lacked in 1945.

Piggybacking off your great post: those old blankets and towels with hair dye stains and little rips can have a new home with animal shelters this time of year too. They also need warmth, and they dont care about those little stains and small tears.

Maybe my desire to get and use an ita bag is like a midlife crisis thing because we all know none of the millennials can afford to get a sports car or a superbike or a holiday home or a new spouse as a midlife crisis. It's just going to be anime merch and games on Steam that we'll never play

Some can I think. There's a few Japanese brands that have a takoyaki plate, and a lot of China arms Europe ones have a pancake plate.

So anyway I now have a toastie maker, suggestions welcome!

Also, as always, I love the Internet Archive @archive.org

I knew I had hit the mother lode when the first recipe in the book was this beautifully unhinged thing (I mean, who in this day and age would think to make this in a toastie maker?):
A recipe for spinach oyster tarts. To make it, leftover cooked spinach is beaten with cream and seasoned with salt and pepper. Shortcrust pastry triangles are then pressed into the preheated toastie maker and topped with the spinach, some canned smoked oysters, and grated gruyère cheese. These are then topped with another layer of shortcrust pastry before the toastie maker is closed to bake the tarts.

A note at the end of the recipe says that this recipe can be made with bread, and that either way it would make an excellent accompaniment to grilled ham steaks.

First stop was Reddit and honestly kind of boring, but then again serious food reddit isn't very exciting or inventive to begin with. Still, do better!

Next stop was Internet Archive, where I found one of those recipe books they gave out with a purchase of something called a Snackster.

Problem 2: Me hating the idea of a single use appliance.

This was an easy fix; I just narrowed the search down to a toastie maker with interchangeable plates so I could at least attempt a waffle or something.

BUT ALSO! I went looking for ideas of what else to make in a toastie maker.
rinwrites.bsky.social
Problem 1: All the toastie makers that do the sealed edges made 4 triangle toasties. I wanted something more like the one pictured, but they were all basically just square panini presses (YES THERE'S A DIFFERENCE)
A sandwich press that makes just two triangle toasties.

I've been trying to find things that give me a tiny bit of joy lately, to stave off the SAD, and I don't know how I got the idea but I thought that getting a toastie maker would help. The basic ones are really cheap, and I figure even if I only really use it for a week it wouldn't be such a waste.
rinwrites.bsky.social
By toastie I mean the ones made in a toastie/jaffle press, where it seals the triangles. I haven't had one since I left school, and when I got my own place I reasoned that I could just make grilled cheeses on a pan instead of buying the ridiculous Tefal Snack thing I wanted (also I was/am poor lol).

In the first two years of secondary school, I was in what's known as the afternoon session, where school starts 12.50 and ends at 6.30. I had orchestra rehearsals at 7 and we lived pretty far away from my school, so my mum would usually bring me toasties to eat in the car otw to the rehearsal space.

Are you a literal child who has to ask "why is he doing that?" every 5 seconds during a film?

Me talking to me

Frog got a ladder. He put the box up on a high shelf. “There,” said Frog. “Now we will not eat any more cookies.”

“But we can climb the ladder and take the box down from the shelf and cut the string and open the box,” said Toad.

“That is true,” said Frog.
Frog climbs a ladder and hides the cookies high on a shelf.

guy got mad at me for sharing this comic on twitter back in 2017, but it's still one of my favorite exchanges. (he was not kidding, btw.)
my own tweet explaining "so in this Spanish horror comic, Frankenstein's monster knocks out a woman, and I was REALLY worried, but he just wanted to try on her clothes" with screenshot of a guy named Ziv quote-tweeting me to say "This is horrendously disturbing. I am disturbed. Honestly, Priscilla, you need to back up and look at your life and think to yourself, 'Self, is this really the person I want to be?' Posting frankensteinian erotica and shit?'" with my reply "this is exactly the person I want to be" and the followup "actually it's Frankenstein's MONSTER'S Erotica"

After my good experience with the Silent Hill f shirt I decided to check out what else Konami has on their official store and this genuinely might be the most unhinged singular piece of merch out there.

The year that I discovered myself and transitioned, I kept a journal. The next year, I retold it on Twitter, in real time a year after it happened. That thread is gone now, of course.

I'm getting it back online, and I've edited it into a new and more readable form.
