That is my one massive gripe with Pillowfort. I can’t even argue with you there 😂 I’ve been begging them to update the image uploader for forever and it still hasn’t come around.

I’ve only seen two posts related to what’s on my blacklist in the past year and it’s only because people didn’t tag properly, so it wasn’t the site’s fault.

I get you’re not a fan of the way it’s set up without an account, but I don’t think it’s fair to say you can’t curate your content since when you have an account you can curate your content by using their blacklisting tool and a toggle to turn off NSFW.

When used, the tools are very effective.

an unfortunate irony about this post - and even if you are the staunchest anti-ai critic out there, i think you'd agree - is that some of the most bigoted things are being said to respond to this. copy/pasting phrasing and terminology used by bigots but replacing "dna" with "bits" doesn't make it ok

Some ppl use postybirb to post there in addition to their regular places just to build a backup/try to build an audience. But as it stands, it’s not primarily platform material for artists looking to make money off their work, unfortunately.

At this point, no. The audience is very low. If enough ppl with a large audience migrated to change the dynamic then it could be worth it, but that’s a hypothetical.

I was blocked by a member of Bluesky's staff for asking if a comment made in official capacity as a Bluesky staffer represents the company, which implied that a trans woman would have been harassed by the entire team.

a member of bluesky saying "Yeh" in response to the above post, with a journalist responding asking to get their exact quote over the thread in which the bluesky member responds with "what" and the journalist then rephrasing the question only for the bluesky member to delete the entire thread

That’s like saying tumblr is only for long posts. People on there want more variety! They want fandoms, niche hobbies, shitposts, memes, gifs. You name it, they want it!

“Pillowfort is dead/about to shut down”

It’s existed for 8 years solely from user donations. We reach or get close to meeting the donation goal every month & there’s a bit of a buffer. So as long as people throw a dollar or two their way when they can it should keep chugging along for years to come

if ur not tagging your posts and/or sharing them into communities, no one will see them & you’ll get no interactions.

This is by design so ur posts don’t breach containment from a discover feed. They also have per post privacy settings so only certain groups of people can see your post.

It has a PWA which is set up and functions like an app complete with push notifications. This is why it doesn’t have to stick to App Store content restrictions so be happy it doesn’t have an app.

They do their best to be. Again they only ban loli & unfortunately you can’t sell sex work on there due to legal issues. They’re not happy about it but as a small site they can’t risk it.

There was a security flaw years ago, it was caught almost immediately by people looking for & reporting bugs, the site was shut down until the problem was fixed & it hasn’t been an issue since. They did another security audit in 2024.

They ban loli. Other than the regular “no hate speech, no irl violence” that’s pretty much the only big thing they ban. So no, it’s not the same. Also AI is banned.

Having it be so small does suck at times for sure. The unfortunate reality is that if nobody joins bc it’s so small then it’s never gonna get any bigger. So idk what kind of exodus it would take to get ppl to join but im hopeful it’ll keep chugging along
