Help me with my paintings for Advent! They're going to be four nighttime city skylines/skyscapes that may or may not successfully capture the cities that I'm aiming for, but which cities?

I agree that store bought apple pie is bad. Usually it needs less sugar, more apples, double the spices, and half the crust.
Apple pie is bad. This is not really debatable. So is key lime pie, while we’re on the topic. Pecan pie is the 🐐 tho.

Ugh. Tomorrow I need to do the swimming lessons scramble.

I'm nearly finished with the reread of the catechism of my childhood that I've been doing this year. It's worse than I remembered.

Anyone want to tell me about the catechisms they're familiar with? ⚓

Today's tasks are boring but important and somewhat time sensitive. What are all of you up to?

Sooooo much infrastructure debt.
Thompson: So three decades of being below the sustainable level of paving?

Staff: That's correct.

For Christ the King Sunday, we're reading about the crucifixion. This was the point where he was recognised as King, and it was the same moment when the Roman Empire killed him for it. In some ways, this moment is the point of the whole story. This is the moment when he's fully human (we all die) and the moment where his kingdom is realized (in self-sacrifice).

Ugh. Still thinking about lighting. My tool doesn't actually have the fixtures I'm thinking of, but the general question has come down to: Ceiling lights or wall lights?

We're somewhat height limited, but the ceiling lights come down less far than the beams.

Done except for buttons.

Like...Look at these jeans: www.showstudio.com/projects/des...

In blue denim (the original design) they look kind of meh to me. it just makes a practical garment real complicated with no real benefit.

But farther down the page with the lace or contrast colour panels? Now that I can see wearing.

This is a real cool project: www.showstudio.com/projects/des... Looks like free downloadable patterns from high fashion designers being collected alongside other takes on the same patterns.

So...Which should I put on my to-try list?

Ok, this place makes tasty food, but their tacos are small compared to the other place. I'm going to need to find a dessert.

I don't believe in ghosts.

But my workplace is definitely haunted. I have personally heard the ghost.

That I don't believe in.
do you believe in ghosts or are you like me, a person who finds themself saying all the time “I absolutely don’t believe in ghosts, but this place has ghosts.”

Ugh. I put too much stuff in my Power BI dashboard and now it takes an hour to change the linkages in the data model.

Want to give a recommendation? I'm looking for science fiction or fantasy in translation (written in another language, professionally translated to English.)

I've seen older books suggested, but I want books from the last 10-20 years. Something that's come out this year would be great.

Beforehand

This passage is not a prophesy. Not the way we usually think of a prophesy these days anyway. It's not a supernatural prediction of future events. The remarks about the temple amount to a kind of "memento mori": remember, all things end. He goes a little farther talking about wars and…

The remarks about the temple amount to a kind of "memento mori": remember, all things end. He goes a little farther talking about wars and uprisings and earthquakes and famine and other terrible events and signs.

Ah fuck.

I'm going to have to join the federal NDP to vote for "not that guy" aren't I?

It seems to me that this pretty straightforwardly breaks the commandment against idolatry.

I've been rereading my childhood catechism this year. It sucks in a lot of ways, but they do get this one right.

My house does not support limiting the books that a reporter will see. Unless I get time to completely rearrange everything, they're going to see dozens of books. In random seeming piles all over my living room.

I'm not trying to make an impression. My house is just a mess.
alright let’s get something more pleasant going. what two books would you leave out on your coffee table so a reporter can mention you have them. doesn’t matter if you’ve read them. for me it’s Pale Fire (which I did read) and Ulysses (got like 15% of the way in)

It's that time of year again:
Fellow cyclists, please calibrate your headlight as low beams rather than high beams and stop using your headlamp. Blinding oncoming traffic (cyclists, vehicles, and pedestrians) does not make anyone safer.

I have nearly the opposite reaction to report cards than this. "Fine, we're all good at math. What about your social and emotional skills?"
I think the belief by the powerful that "people will put up with many things if you are excellent at math" is incredibly revealing in terms of understanding How We Got Here
