Hilarious to me that the argument among historians and sociologists opposed to LLM use vs those supportive amounts to “Tractatus” Wittgenstein arguing against “Investigations” Wittgenstein.

In Silicon valley over break and have to say this place makes no sense. Its like one big suburb with blah strip miles and low slung commercial "historic" "downtowns."

The great irony of tech companies complaining about Europe is they live in a place where you literally can't build anything.

This, combined with "vice signaling" (taking pride in antisocial behavior) has given us the reign of the Stupid Asshole, something most people are against, but can only be remedied if we're not too polite to talk about it
An essential development over the past decade-plus is that the ignorant went from feeling chastened when their ignorance was revealed to banding together and deciding that, actually, they were right. They might disagree at times, but they agreed that ignorance itself was an indicator of trust.

It's annoying to see the hand-wringing over a small number of wealthy people making empty threats to move because of tax increases, when there are actually people leaving desirable places en masse because they can't find affordable places to live

I had not seen this Jezebel article before, but it's pure gold, and articulates what is a really important point.

The issue goes back further -- there's no way Stephen Miller exists in a world where people aren't too cowardly to flat out say this, consistently.

What @katmabu.bsky.social is doing is LITERALLY all that politics is.

If you think this is a bad use of resources, you've confused process with outcomes.

Normal and/or sane (non ridiculously rich) people vote on outcomes only.

Good on @katmabu.bsky.social for making this part of campaigning.

Crowe in Nuremberg is excellent. Setting aside the rest of the cast, portraying Goring as a human being with both horrible and strong, charismatic qualities is an incredibly important message.

Norway went from 16% to 98% EV adoption in 10 years.

The rest of the world is following suit.

If you think EVs are niche or a fad, you’re only kidding yourself.👇🏽

Greatest example of “False Consensus Effect” I can think of
I love how Trump thinks we can't see how he telegraphs what he's most guilty of and most afraid of: everything Epstein, election interference and fraud, and inhabiting a world of corruption. It's a forensic psychologist's jackpot!

This is a great example not just of Nazism being normalized, but of being so removed from the consequences of Nazism that it becomes just a thought exercise. I mean, hey, 20 years ago this avowed antisemite couldn’t even have been part of polite society and look at him now!
Joe Rogan and Shane Gillis on Nick Fuentes running for president one day.

Rogan: “He could probably win in a few years. Listen, he couldn’t have existed before, right? Ten, twenty years ago, couldn’t have existed. Now, super popular. What’s twenty years from now look like?”

here's a hot for Bluesky take: a lot of tech-criticism is so bad and focused on a kind of stupid imagined STEM-humanities culture war that some companies have been able to build whole brands around being "evil tech bros 😈" making supervillain promises despite their shit being vaporware

Once when we wanted to show the ineffectual dithering of The Good Place Committee, we had one of them say, "There are rules, procedures. This is The Good Place -- we can't just *do stuff.*" We almost didn't include it, because we thought it was a little on the nose.
