Goal for the day*: Be less shitty.

* This day. Today. Every day.
This is genuine, with no subtext: I'm thankful for people who are kind, those who foster community, and the carers in all their forms. I spent a lot of today around people like this who were working, giving, caring, going beyond on Thanksgiving, when they probably would have liked to be elsewhere.

grease floats.

when it flows in sewage and into our plants, it thickens as temps fall, separating in our settling tanks.

the churning water forms grease globs that build like snowballs, and operators remove them so they don’t clog the process.

listen. don’t pour grease down your drains.

edition.cnn.com/2025/11/25/s... A story that I’ve been working on for the past few months, about why women’s football is so important to queer people, is published! I really loved writing this and it’s a story that’s very close to my heart. I would love it if you kind folks would give it a read 🤍

Anecdote: My dad was almost entirely nonverbal in his last year-plus of life. But one day, he said two complete, situationally-appropriate sentences out of the blue. It was a day when I had been playing jazz for him, which mom seldom did. Something about the music helped. wapo.st/4puXAZB (gift link)
Listening to music most days could guard against dementia, study suggests
A new study finds that regularly listening to music or playing a musical instrument may help older adults protect against cognitive decline.

Once again I have proved the first rule of selling on eBay: in order to sell an item on eBay, one must first list the item on eBay. (It's odd how items don't sell themselves from inside my closet.)

On my walk earlier this week, I waved to all of the people on a passing train. Because that's the rule: you wave to the people on the train. It is not age-restricted. I also like to wave to flaggers, and sometimes to sanitation workers. Now I also know to wave (safely) to other work crews too!
i encourage greetings for our crews when you see them near you. if a safe opportunity is there, go ahead and give them a wave or a thank you. it goes a long way.
I saw one of your trucks on the towpath near Station Road Bridge and wanted to stop and say hi but then realized the worker would probably find that really weird.

The smart cat was extremely worried that I would miss my bus this morning. For 20 minutes, he worked diligently to get me out of bed because something had happened to my alarm clock. For 20 minutes I tried to explain "fall back" to him, but he kept telling me I was talking nonsense. 🤷 He was right.

Johnson: "If they had no filibuster, they would pack the SCOTUS. You'd go from 9 to 17 or however many liberals they could pack. You would make DC & Puerto Rico into states, which would give 4 additional Democrat senators & make us a permanent minority. You'd see massive restrictions of 2A rights"
