Hey US and Canada folks! My Nebula, World Fantasy & Locus award nominated novel SHIGIDI will (finally!) be out in paperback on Nov 4. If you couldn't get the hardcover when it came out (understandably so!) here's your chance.
Its got African gods + a succubus + a heist at the British museum!

💯
So one thing I was unprepared for in my debut year was the amount of time I’d spend blocking spam accounts looking to sell me something

i’m so tired of this. musicians should be able to make a living. same w all artists. (for me, this is why ai generated slop so fucking insulting. we’re not even allowed to own the contents of our minds anymore—not without some jackass coming along and stealing it.)

pay artists a living wage.
Same problem in publishing and film.

Everyone gets paid long before the writer, and then it's pennies on the dollar, if we're lucky.

People can't create like this.

We shouldn't have to create like this.

There's no product without us, yet we get told it's more important to pay everyone else.
“Average musician makes $12 a month on Spotify. The fact that they are not even able to sell a record and it’s taken from them by rich motherfuckers on streaming platforms who get paid royally by record labels,Ticketmaster, merch companies. They’re all fucking getting paid, except for the musician.”

Have discovered I get way more royalties from library orders (as in from a single library order, based on the statement I just received) than from other sales. Wow. Neat.

Folks, order books for your libraries, make authors happy and share the love with other readers!

Good stories invite your interest and then reward it.

But not all narrative rewards are shaped the same way.

Think of your favorite ambiguous endings. Sometimes the reward is being told your imagination is enough.
Yes, exactly. You hope for readers to develop an open sense of complicity, a willingness to be moved in the heart and in the head, rather than a grim interrogation mindset ("You think you're clever, but you're not going to pull a fast one on me!").
