We've known they lie systematically about this for a while. Thanks to everyone videoing them
🚨 #ICE/Border Patrol agents were caught on camera committing a 'hit-and-run' in #Minneapolis.

In the video, an unmarked federal vehicle is stopped in the road. A legal observer is sitting in a car behind them, not violating the law, just observing.

Still decent people in the feds, but they’re leaving.
Breaking NYT:

The FBI agent who sought to investigate the federal immigration officer who fatally shot Renee Good has resigned from the bureau, according to two people familiar with the matter, after leadership pressured her to discontinue a civil rights inquiry into the officer.

ABC World News reported that at least 20,000 people protested in Minneapolis, including at the airport, and that *this was in a windchill of minus 40 degrees.* Minnesotans, you are the best of us. DAMN that makes me proud. Minus 40

This is a broader problem laid out in a slightly outdated but still excellent book by Harvey Silverglate, "Three Felonies a Day": federal criminal law is now so swollen and byzantine that you can plausibly argue virtually anybody is guilty of SOME sort of crime if you're willing to dig enough.
Fun example: the (revised) federal Gun-Free School Zones Act. If you've ever bought a hunting rifle (say) or shotgun that came in a cardboard box, and you drove it home from the store and passed within 1,000 feet of a K-12 without having it in a locked container, that was a federal felony. [...]

An exchange from the series Firefly between one of the protagonists and a mercenary bounty hunter has lived rent free in my head for 20+ years, and has sadly been on my mind a lot recently--

POPEHAT SIGNAL: Pro Bono counsel sought in Chicago, for the cause of right over the cause of evil. Potential client is out-of-state and indigent. Opponent is abusing Illinois’ pre-litigation discovery process to harass and abuse her and likely to dox her. The details are insane.

It’s like some weird fucking experiment to see how obvious you can make it before Americans have an “Are we the baddies?” moment, and a third of the population just cannot get there.

The United States has officially withdrawn from the World Health Organization.

This is a shameful move that puts both Americans and people all over the world at greater risk from disease outbreaks, which require international collaboration to contain.

Trump wouldn't understand the movie. He doesn't understand why people serve in the U.S. military. He knows zero history. He had to ask what happened at Pearl Harbor. Frankly, understanding the strength and value of an alliance with other countries is completely beyond him

National media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation.

Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.

I used to like the idea of prediction markets. I'm changing my mind. Too many corrupt people in too many countries can make serious money on events they have the power to decide

Noticing a trend from my Facebook feed: Lots of Republicans/conservatives in cities subjected to Trump's occupations (L.A., Minneapolis, Charlotte, Chicago) are angry and turning radically anti-ICE.

But Republicans/conservatives everywhere else don't believe them.

Every Minnesotan I know in Minnesota is involved in this and it makes me savagely proud
I know people keep saying this but it’s hard to communicate the depth of active resistance here. Like, I’m on random cafes and people are checking in for observation shifts. Signs everywhere. Folks in visibility vests on the corners. It’s wild. Absolutely wild.

Here in Minneapolis, hundreds of clergy from all over the country have been deployed into the streets to participate in ICE/DHS watch.

The hail from a range of religious traditions, and have come from all over.

This particular group is in a heavily immigrant neighborhood.
