Fitting: Dutch governmental news broadcaster NOS announces that it will stop posting on X from today onwards due to unmoderated vitriol. One of the top commenters below their last post, with blackface profile picture, wishes cancer to these “disgusting left-wing cancer fascists.”

Labour is desperately trying to appeal to Reform supporters. In October, we asked people in the UK if they perceive a party as a "party for someone like them". Only very few people say this for both Labour and Reform. The correlation is negative. Labour is chasing an electorate that does not exist.

Not as much of an expert as some commenting on this, but I feel like the "welp, this is the end of online survey research" response is a bit defeatist. Provided that the recommendations made in this paper are followed (!!!), I think a transformation of how surveys are implemented is more likely.
new paper by Sean Westwood:

With current technology, it is impossible to tell whether survey respondents are real or bots. Among other things, makes it easy for bad actors to manipulate outcomes. No good news here for the future of online-based survey research

Given that b) wasn't the case, the PVV did shrink, with voters citing its exclusion by other parties as their reason to switch. A tiny silver lining in an otherwise pretty depressing election: the radical right is as large as ever and the left smaller than ever.
As others, I’m sceptical that Geert Wilders’ decision to blow up the coalition will result in electoral gains. That would require a) another election dominated by the issue of migration and b) VVD publically flirting with the idea of co-governing with PVV. It’s unlikely that both will be the case.

Methodological question for #Polisky or #Academicsky: I struggle a bit with online list experiments aiming to bypass social desirability. After all, there's no need to appear appropriate in an anonymous online survey to begin with, unlike f2f. Does anyone know of a paper that contradicts my hunch?

Yesterday, 1500 far-right protesters blocked highways in The Hague, attacked police offers and demolished the headquarters of the liberal @d66.nl party. The biggest newspaper in the Netherlands today: mostly crickets, and an interview with the organiser about how sad this was for her.

The far-right majority in the Dutch parliament (BBB-FvD-JA21-PVV-SGP-VVD) has just designated “Antifa” a terrorist organization.

This is a dark day for Dutch democracy and the final nail in the coffin of the VVD as a serious liberal democratic party.

This is a convincing takedown of the new strategy of social democrats around the world, and should be a clear warning for @groenlinks-pvda.bsky.social, who are at risk of following the same path with their recent proposal to cut migration in half.

Begrijpelijk, Wilders heeft natuurlijk ook nooit reden gegeven om te denken dat hij chaos ging creëren en dat de beeldvorming voor hem belangrijker zou zijn dan de inhoud.
