These days, I am so tired of the people who are tired of everything being so political these days
Amd yet I hear there's a male loneliness epidemic. So confusing

Week 23 of ##SewAndTell is all about kids, and hence, in my wheelhouse. Early on, I stumbled on a formula of cotton pajamas + fleece accessories for comfortable, practical kid costumes. Here are a few that I laid out and photographed to sell or give away, but alas, no takers. DM me if you need one!

It's true that when a government becomes tyrannical it is the duty of the citizens to overthrow it and form a new one. It's just that the people who have been saying it in my lifetime have been saying it in response to stuff like the existence of Hannukah, and Black people, and the Spanish language.

Wake up. Make breakfast. Do email. Watch a murder. Go to a party for a 5 year old. Laugh with my daughter. See a different angle of that murder. Hear govt officials slander the victim. Play Barbies with my kid. Feed her dinner. Tear up at that victim reading last honors to a vet. Put kid to bed. USA

Stop with the "we're cooked, no more elections" rhetoric. You're doing their work for them. January has already been a long year, November is functionally unknowable, so stop ejaculating your panic all over the place and for Pete's sake don't forfeit the levers we still DO have at our disposal.

He’s five. He’ll need snacks. Are they gonna have anything he recognizes or likes? He’s gonna need bathroom breaks. Who’s zipping him up tight when it’s cold? Who’s holding onto his winter clothes when it gets warm all way south? Who’s changing his socks? Who’s keeping him clean? Putting him to bed?

As my 11- and 9-yos become more politically aware, I think a lot about how to balance teaching them to stay open to multiple perspectives with cultivating a strong moral compass. I don't love how their first question when they meet someone new is "Do we know who they voted for?" And yet... (1/2)

Honest question: has anyone shown our president Greenland on a globe rather than a map? I feel like maybe he doesn't realize how big it isn't? Someone please, for the sake of all humanity, get him in a room with a globe

For week 21 of #SewAndTell, there's lots of blue in this bog coat I'm making out of upholstery fabric thrifted at the 757 Creative Reuse Center in Norfolk, VA. Just need to finish hand-stitching the collar and I'll be stomping around regally, in a Star Wars-y sort of way #sewsky #sewing

A Black man was killed by ICE (off duty) in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve. And like Renée Good, he was an American citizen. But most people have not heard about Keith Porter.

I need y’all to realize this. Black people experience this lack of visibility all the time when it comes to being victims.

Well, it's clumsy AF and utter chaos, but it's DONE. I've been staring at it so long that perspective is impossible, and I learned plenty that, had I already known, would've made it so much better. I guess the good news is that topsy-turvy suits the aesthetic! #sewsky #quiltsky #tulapink

Well, I'll be damned.
I can think of one circumstance and one only under which 2026 could fulfill this descriptor, so let's all keep our fingers crossed.

The entire thesis here is "hey, do you realize how many people could choose to not use labor from human beings if they instead used the extruded meat product trained on labor from those same human beings?"

I broke up with Target and Amazon months ago. But just like with so many breakups of long-term relationships, I was doing fine on my own until the holidays rolled around, whereupon I felt almost desperate to take them back.

For Week 18 of #SewAndTell (gifts), here is my 9yo sewing buddy's present for her mom. She made the star blocks, and I took over from there. Mom is the sort who's very sparing with praise, so it's a real feather in our cap that she teared up when she opened it.

This great read, aimed at mental health pros, also suggests a path for educators. We've created an ed system that tends to reward results rather than the inherently messy, non-linear, uncomfortable process of learning. We've also done little to give our students tools to measure their growth (1/2)

Oh man, if THIS prompt wasn't right up my street! I have several #upcycled items for this week's #SewAndTell, so I give you a Tale of Two Blankets, both scavenger at estate sales: a skirt and my first and only, though not last, blanket coat - which is cute if a bit too hobbit-y for my liking.

The last 2 weeks' #SewAndTell prompts nudged me to start an overdue mending project, but I wound up swamped. I'll go back and do them, but in the meantime I'm grateful that this week's prompt is Home Decor, because I just finished this cute dopamine-infused bucket inspired by #SewCanShe. #sewsky

So glad that after years of abc's and 123's, my children finally have a proper Spanish teacher who can teach them the subtle art of el chisme

#SewAndTell Week 13 - my everyday heroes are these nearly indestructible grocery bags, patterned off the usual plastic ones. I've made these countless times! Since they fold down flat into their own pockets, they're a great addition to a suitcase and come in handy for any number of things. #sewsky
