I once voted for a candidate in a primary because I thought they could win, instead of the candidate I preferred. I regret that vote terribly. how can a candidate win if people don't prefer them?

non-preferred candidates shouldn't get votes. don't even rank candidates you don't prefer.
A This Is Our Current Political Reality fact too many deny: no matter how much your candidate ought to win, if they'll draw more votes against them than another of your party's candidates would—and they don't have the overwhelming support that other candidate does—they'll lose.

Does that mean

the problem with nuclear is that it was invented nearly 100 years ago and it hasn't killed oil/fossil fuel yet.

I bet you thought I was going to call it dangerous or expensive or something.

no. the problem with nuclear is that it failed with the time it had allotted to it.

every year that goes by the republican/terrorist victory over America since 2001 becomes crystal clear. I used to think it was silly to think Bush caused 9/11 but in retrospect a republican attacking the DNC stronghold of NYC is obvious. they really did it & we're living in the world they wanted

We are aware of a reported shooting at Kentucky State University in Frankfort. At this time, we are aware of some injuries. We will share more information as available. Law enforcement are on scene, and a suspect has been arrested. Let’s pray for all those affected.

people keep talking about perfection when the base just wants effective. we don't expect perfection from politicians but we do expect results and for them to fight on our side instead of against us lol
The Dems are far from perfect, but the vast majority of them seem to have the best interests of their constituents at heart, and they deserve support in an imperfect system. This cannot be said of the scum in the Rep party.

Looked over the Texas primary. Talarico is my preferred candidate and I also think he has a better shot at winning. Looking over Crockett's ballotpedia responses made me cringe so hard. she recommended a book by Obama and a book about RBG.. lord

giving favors to the powerful who don't need it.. nah

Talarico looks like he's much better than Crockett and also has a better chance of winning.

some reddit threads are hilarious. some guy on mildlyinfuriating was pointing out how he has to deal with bullshit like other cars with non-working brake lights because Texas stopped requiring yearly inspections.

commenters were saying "well the police can still write them a ticket!" so confidently

kinda sad to realize that there are so many bots online nowadays that it'd be easy for bots to create tons of huge threads and put dozens of fake, unsubstantial comments there with long reply chains, and it's just all bots. you can reply but you're the only human there.

sometimes I like to say that the 1781 constitution which enacted a constitutional slave state will be the downfall of American democracy. the first point here is exactly what I mean.

of course having a merit-based civil service is unconstitutional in a slave state.
What a great day for a renewed spoils system:

(1) the constitutionality of merit-based civil service laws is questioned at SCOTUS

(2) Trump announces an arbitrary $12bn clientelistic payout to “farmers” (funding source and statutory authority TBD I guess)

Roscoe Conkling would be so proud

violent crime: working class stealing from the wealthy

"financial" crime: wealthy class stealing from the working class

white color crime: wealthy class using groups of likeminded individuals called gangs to hurt working class people.

of course I'll need Crockett to renounce cryptocurrency support and pledge to not enable more taxpayer dollars to go to the folks who traded drugs, prostitutes, and criminal proceeds for internet money. the Epstein class is the crypto class.

for me, the post-covid era will always be defined by that one guy spouting out about heart health & the vaccine, while blackout drunk (alcohol is bad for your heart kids).

also beer contains about 100x the amount of estrogen-like substances compared to tofu. that's what causes the "beer gut".

I think everyone commenting on politics today just vastly underestimates the importance of personal charisma especially as it can translate to media. It explains Mamdani, trump, platner, goes back to even Reagan. Which is why Crockett will be a good candidate imo.

I keep seeing people blaming Harris' skin color and gender for her loss. they say "America didn't vote for her because she's a black woman" & they use her loss as evidence for this conclusion. but that evidence can't support such a conclusion because there are too many other variables to account for

gerrymandering to this degree was only possible thanks to social media collecting our data and selling it to the RNC. shit, I doubt Facebook and google even sold that data to the RNC... they gave it away for free.

no wonder my grandpa died at 99 as an alcoholic. being drunk is lovely considering we're all gonna die one day. I honestly feel bad that my grandpa was 2 weeks sober when he died (because drinking is actually really hard to do when you're very elderly)

The 14th is pretty darn unambiguous. No mention of the citizenship of the parents. Born in the USA means USA citizen.

I think the cause of suicide is violence. I think only violence causes suicide, and all suicidal folks are all victims of a form of violence that shakes them to their core. I don't think anything else causes a person to decide to end it.

events that happened to me today have made me consider this.

For context, $1.55 billion is about three times more than the Obama-era loan that the solar company Solyndra defaulted on. Republicans went on and on about Solyndra for *years*. Deafening silence on the methane fund by comparison.
