I agree, and it should definitely be called out when that happens. Just looking more broadly I think men have more work to do on the whole to do better. There's more shitty men than there are shitty women.

Also, don't get me wrong - I'm no saint. It's taken almost as long as my entire adult life to finally understand that context and nuance. I used to be a monster. I'm not now, or at least I try very hard not to be and lead with compassion, but I still make mistakes.

And I know there's some nuance here where there's a direct focus on WS women and such - that's definitely a thing, those women ARE awful, but the men are worse in those circles by far and so so often treat those women like brood mares to create white children, and that's about it..

Yeah but it's so often the case that men ARE monsters, and women ARE victims... I understand where you're coming from, and I think we're mostly on the same page, I just think that on a larger scale those women would be less inclined to be that way if not for men making it necessary for them to be.

Then there's this whole other minefield when a woman is flipping the script on you as a guy, and because men are creepy and gross, you have to be extra careful to signal that you're not going to do creepy shit and take advantage of someone. Had that happen recently even!

Yep, and in my experience with the women I've dated, they always had that presumption that I was going to treat them the same way, and when I didn't it was so unfamiliar to them it was almost off-putting. Like they thought I wasn't being genuine about my interest. It was weird, and not their fault.

No doubt, and I'm not saying they're blameless, just that the men kind of set up that whole existence for them in the first place. Less blame isn't no blame, just weighted differently.

I feel like also maybe they project the kind of sex they wish they were having with their own partners onto the fantasy ones they write. I'm sure they do that writing cis het characters too, but either way it's unrealistic.

This is so true! I'm pan and every cis het woman I've been around (in any capacity) there's this weird tension that if we're not in a relationship then we can't ever talk or be friends without that baggage. I hate it! I blame the cis het men for that more than anything though.
