‘the endless fray of being me’ — that closing line is so strong. You capture loneliness without ornament, a plea stitched to survival.

The sorrow in this is so tangible. And your formatting allows me to feel it deeply. Thanks for sharing 🙏 #poemsabout #imperfectme

Good morning! I wasn't going to do this prompt for #PoemsAbout #imperfectMe but started writing it yesterday @paulwritespoems.bsky.social writing group. It's still rough. Thanks as always to @alanparrywriter.co.uk and @thebrokenspine.co.uk
Poem:

Still Standing

The scar on my right breast
a faint tracing,
the charcoal under the artist’s paint,

tattooed dots,
ellipsis signaling the story continues—

always a before
and an after--

so far, always an after--

the sagging of flesh, the greying of hair,
points for endurance, if not for style,

as vain as anyone, I suppose,
but embracing the imperfect,
me.

Sending billions to Argentina while laying off Americans at home.

Letting Qatar build a base on US soil coz they bribed Trump with a plane and are investing billions in his personal business ventures.

Doesn’t seem like “America First”, does it?

The rhyme scheme with the dark/serious content is really great!

"the endless fray of being me" perfectly sums up this theme. 💙

Wear the Gloves by Dawn McLachlan

In those muddled days after When all was opened doors
And emptied drawers
I remember them
Butter-soft and finest leather
Stitching like the whisper of the needle
Wrapped still in silvered tissue
Faded tags of festive gifting
Unworn
Saved for a "best" too late to know So if you think me too showy
With misplaced colours and gaudy cloth
Fine jewellery worn for no good reason
It is because I have learned to Wear the damn gloves

Resurrection

A ladybird glistens on a tuft tiny tomato in the dew spat out M&M drop of blood. Buried, he always returns. Unseen hands knead her daily. She licks rustiness, a trickle at the corner of her mouth. Her eye compresses. He calls her name. The voice stumbles her in breath clenched. She…

‘Stand here with a sign that says / Please do not touch’ The helplessness is stirring beneath every line. Fierce, unflinching writing. #KeepWriting #PoemsAbout #Mannequin

Hello poets & @thebrokenspine.co.uk
- for this week's #LiftToTheSky I'd like to call out Melanie Green’s A Long, Wide Stretch of Calm

At the Edge of a Lake
“At the shore / of silence— / what becomes / and unbecomes”

The Luster of Silence
“in afternoon’s / echo of lights.”
