In this conversation I would just like to include the phrase poswid. The purpose of a system is what it does.

If this is the effect of the mbti it does not matter if it was not designed for this purpose, because it's what it is used for and what it does. Therefore it is a tool for genocide.

When the MBTI was being written, Black Men in the South East US were being replaced by Black Women because they'd accept lower wages to pack meat.

In 1975, our solitary policy accomplishments of modern labor reform like minimum wage had just happened. That is the MBTI's context. Never forget.

Every immigration argument is about Labor Reform, and the sociological theory of Split Labor Markets will tell you more about industry than the fucking MBTI.

Never forget that Big Tech is using H1B visas to replace Americans with slaves from abroad. Trump's big 100k fine is to squeeze these companies for money, not to dissuade the practice.

A few million dollars didn't stop Tyson chicken from issuing fake green cards to Latino American migrants in 2005.

I'd almost go so far as to say it's borderline eugenicist but the MBTI does not on its surface nor in its design and scoring intentionally sort based on geoethnonational origin. Our society in the US does that work as a feature, not a glitch, thanks to labor replacement strategies via split markets.

As mentioned in the adjacent thread to this quote, the Myers Briggs is a tool of industrialists, explanatory power is not verified through statistical measure or peer review.

It attempts to simplify cognitive elements of human psychology to four binary domains, fails, and should be disregarded.

I am clearly an empathizing person, but the MBTI qualifies my flatter emotional affect as introversion since I am not simultaneously outgoing *and* curious about the internal experiences of others.

My empathy response cost me countless jobs and opportunities, my quiet and reserved nature has too.

One job I got based on the test labelling me as ISTP.

I'm only ISTP when I've had proper sleep, a large dose of a stimulant and I'm not in any significant body pain or discomfort.

So it seems what MBTI actually measures is "how has trauma limited you today".

Hard to refute meaning: it provides no alternative explanation or hypothesis. MBTI treats it's typologies as a H0 (null hypothesis), when at best it is fodder H1 (experimental hypothesis).

Test retest reliability doesn't eliminate the need for external validation, as you might guess.

Industrial grooming is built around finding and assigning. Your job goals are teased from a young age them you're strongly encouraged to fall in line, and live a joyless life of perpetual instructions given by authority.

The MBTI facilitates this through a flexible and hard to refute model of mind.

In concert with it's intended companion of Vocational Testing the MBTI's dynamic is intended to provide explanatory power to assignments in potential careers. This keeps people motivated and if you're the useful idiot who doesn't know what use you have, this can be very powerful and be a big deal.

Never mind that introversion and extroversion are complex social models of dynamic cognitive allocation; these are simply a binary of "likes/dislikes people".

Suffice to say, it is professional sabotage on top of everything else since the MBTI often suggests success in fields you will fail within.

Industrial Psychology relies on the MBTI because industry doesn't change much in practice. Find someone who isn't good at math? Useless to STEM put them into the manual labor pool, tell them they're "externalizing thinkers", and if they don't play well with others? "You're introverted".

Broadly speaking MBTI categorizes people systemically among a binary outcome split between a total of four axes, it's questions are heavily informed not by cognitive findings but by industrial questionnaires.

It's not interested in how you think or why you think, just that you hate math.

Don't forget the psychometrics are fucked. The MBTI is a corporate product in every possible way including the keen oversight of industrial interests.

Or as a psychologist who watched it rise to prominence once told me: "it's about as useful as an IQ test, or a dart board made from job listings".
