Printers Row and North Center
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Printers Row grows stronger
After strong rider feedback, one of Chicago’s busiest Divvy stations has been densified. We increased capacity by 50% today at the long-standing Federal & Polk station outside Dearborn Station in Printer’s Row 🚲

Best I can do is 70% cuts to CDOT safe streets team who CTA would work with to achieve dedicated lanes. Please reach out to your alder here secure.everyaction.com/gWc687nzwUeG...

I appreciate a news source that still prints corrections. Extremely disappointing info that constituents need to remember
An insider told us, despite what Ald. Dowell said, CDOT would *not* remove infra from Chicago's 1st protected intersection at 18th/Wabash in South Loop, and we shared that. But when we stopped by last night, concrete was removed from SW corner. Asking CDOT for more details. Apologies for the mix-up.

URGENT ACTION NEEDED:

Mayor Johnson's 2026 bond proposal defunds safe streets infrastructure by a whopping 70% – putting our communities in jeopardy by threatening the progress we've made in preventative infrastructure.

Email him and your alderperson today and tell them to reverse course!
Tell the city NO to 70% cuts to safe streets funding!

Please email your alderman below to save Chicago's safe streets infrastructure funding. The cuts would be apocalyptic at 70% gone!

SROs are a valid form of housing and necessary for cities to prevent homelessness. Inventory continuing to decline is bad, even when closures like this are needed
One of Uptown's last single-room occupancy buildings, the Northmere, closed on Friday, leaving many tenants scrambling to find new housing. After the building failed 13 inspections in the past few years, a judge ordered residents to vacate, with tenants being given $2,500 for relocation expenses.

Environmental policy at work
Important, exciting research — air pollution dropped 22% in NYC's congestion relief zone within the first 6 months of #CongestionPricing (with reductions in the surrounding neighborhoods, too)

Cleaner air, better transit, great data — all thanks to #CongestionPricing!

Oh, and land value tax would fix this
the Cook County Assessor's Office has a map showing price changes for three different residential categories

a big reason why tax bills in West Englewood went up is because home values went up (122% from 2020 to 2024)

Thinking of the intersections to this story. The woman killed was knocking on the bus trying to get on & slipped. We’ve all seen people run after a bus, knocking on its windows or door, knowing if you miss one you may wait a while. Sidewalks full of snow & slow infrequent buses. All connected.

Hell yeah, i wonder about the geography nuances here. Still thinking about that one NYC paper that only had housing get cheaper within a few blocks
Interesting new working paper that studies chains of movers after the construction of a new apartment building in Honolulu.

Paper finds that the project resulted in the opening up other, lower cost, housing on the island, benefiting the housing market overall.

Let this radicalize you
Insane but true fact: making US roads as safe as Canadian, Australian, or European roads would save more lives than eliminating murder from the US.

Almost everything I was referencing here passed last night! Tired, excited, disappointed with how and when, but happy! What great wins!
A democrat supermajority in Illinois legislature gets you: no housing, no clean energy, no transit. Like, Sierra Club agreed to support the bill that lifted the nuclear moratorium and it still didn't pass? Embarrassing
