Very funny that every few years we’re deluged with smug opinions about how nobody likes Avatar movies from people who can’t bear film discussion that isn’t hype-based, festival-based, or access-based, and then another one comes out and everyone likes it and it makes a mint and they act vindicated. 🤷🏻

“Cultural impact” is such a nonsense metric. Oh yes my favorite part of movies: landfills worth of tchotchkes, endless tie-in media for 12 year-olds, and boring conversations about plot by people who treat fan wikis like a personality.

Avatar has had a staggering cultural impact, in that every time one of the movies is released there is a flood of articles/comments/assertions about how little cultural impact it has had, any franchise that causes that consistent level of engagement in the chattering class is making a hell of a mark

I hate this character. No shade to the actor but this guy sucks. He’s annoying as shit. If I showed up to a party and he was there, I’d leave the party. If he was in my friend group, I’d have to make some really hard decisions.
