Bit of a @sabrlandmarks.bsky.social Field trip to Hoboken, NJ, took me to Elysian Fields recently, the "birthplace" of base ball (it's a little more complex than that). The first recorded game in Pittsburgh was played 12 years later, across from Gus and Yaya's stand (they weren't there yet).

The @markarmour04.bsky.social Satchel Paige presentation at SABR 53 inspired me to do some “similar” research on another Mobile baseball legend. Look for it soon on the @sabrlandmarks.bsky.social blog.

On our way out of St. Louis yesterday, I stopped at 1212 N. Lindbergh Blvd. From 1969 to 1996, this tired-looking suburban office building was the home of The Sporting News, which arrived in the mail every Saturday for years, teaching me about sports and writing. @sabrlandmarks.bsky.social
