“You have to understand the good in things, to detect the real evil.” —JRR Tolkien
It's a crisis in the ecosystem that is humanity. One part of the ecosystem is attacking another part.
It still boggles my mind that so many people couldn't grasp last year how significantly more morally depraved a second Trump term would be in comparison to the first. And how so many people still can't comprehend that our national crisis isn't about politics, but simple morality.

The whole Third Term Project isn’t actually about Trump. The people behind it know he will likely be dead or enfeebled by 2029. It is about them, the vastly unpopular group around Trump, wanting to grift us forever without elections.

I've wanted to see more of this for a long time. And I'd love to know if there is any longitudinal data that could tell us whether the public has become less informed over the years.
I’ve been thinking a lot about a new kind of polling I’d like to see. We have polling that measures public opinion, which is obviously important, but I’d love to see a little more empirical work on public knowledge: what do voters know about politics and policy?

Trump: I met with, uh... Mr. Toyota. And we had... an amazing... meeting. And I said, 'what's your name?' Toyota. I said, 'you're rich!'

In Durango, Colorado, ICE GOONS violently assaulted an elderly woman during a peaceful protest. They stole her phone, grabbed her by the hair, and threw her down a hill.

None of this is correct. Good thing we have a steady hand on "nuclear"

Chinook salmon have returned to the Klamath River in Oregon after being absent for more than a century. The announcement came roughly a year after the last of four major hydroelectric dams on the river was demolished.

I looked it up once. SNAP takes 2% of the US budget and 93% of the money goes to the actual poor people instead of to the bureaucracy. So it's kind of like if you paid $1000 in taxes, you spent $20 on the poor of which they got to keep $18.60, and you spent $166.66 on the military.
SNAP is probably the most effective federal dollar we spend in terms of long term domestic economic outcomes.

that isn’t why you should support it; you should support it because it is a moral imperative to feed the hungry.

but it’s why even a growth-oriented ghoul shouldn’t oppose it.

The Trump regime could tap into a $5 billion contingency fund to ensure people continue to be fed through SNAP.

They are refusing.

Republicans know the pain they’re causing to Americans—they do not care. The cruelty is the point.

7 million Americans are paying attention enough to protest.
This is several days old. But amidst so much else id missed it. That’s a stunning number. No wonder they about-faced. Reminder of the power of consumers in oligarch era, not subject to the same kind of targeting.

My wife’s (in some cases three-time) trump voting relatives have started mentioning the ballroom to me, negatively; anecdata but I’d like to see some high quality polling. I think it’s a mistake by certain elite elected Dems to think this story isn’t breaking thru

A 14-word replacement for most op-eds, substacks, etc about this moment.

The GOP could stop ALL of this, right now—if a handful of Sens or Reps could step outside the cult.

It would take four in the Senate, four (maybe five) in the House, to change history.

Until then, they're all to blame.
