IOC selling out to discovery has to be one of the most infuriating developments of sports broadcasting. Not being able to choose sports to watch is a travesty.

If Jeff Bezos could afford to spend $75 million on the Melania movie & $500 million for a yacht to sail off to his $55 million wedding to give his wife a $5 million ring, please don't tell me he needed to fire one-third of the Washington Post staff.

Democracy dies in oligarchy.

At this point we can only be saved by Angela Rayner. She’s probably the only person in PLP who can stick it to garage and his fascist cranks.

Singing through the bloody mist
We’ll take our stand for this land
And the stranger in our midst

statistically speaking (and based off the articles) it is a near certainty that thousands of people currently patrolling the streets in Minnesota are people who did not immediately believe the warnings of the left 10 years ago. I see very little criticism of *them* on here
Bluesky idea: if people who didn't agree with you change their opinions so that they do agree with you, why not be happy that you are making progress - rather than complaining that they are "only just catching up"?

I suspect this is what happens to parties when they give up mass membership. The Tory Party, once an integral part of British society, is almost entirely hollow. Its membership is tiny, ageing, almost nonexistent outside the south, and no longer much engaged in communities...
The usual pattern is for Labour to be permitted a term or two in office to allow an exhausted Tory party to renew itself. This is still happening, it's just that the renewed Tory party will be called Reform
It's the Ship of Theseus but all the original parts are being used to build a second, crappier ship.

I truly hope Zac stands in Gorton for the greens. He’ll win and parliament will be better with him as an MP in it.

Andy Burnham is not the Messiah. Andy Burnham is not the route back to "normalcy".

There's no way back, and there shouldn't be: if you'd been paying attention you'd not want to go back.

Andy burnham has never been or will be the answer for Labour. So they should do all women’s shortlist.

Why is it so hard for our democratic leaders to oppose fascism? Real question.

Last year I finished war and peace. This year I’ve finished Lord of The Rings trilogy. This audiobook malarkey is pretty decent. It’s made books I’d never consider reading accessible. #booksky

Homophobia in the commons chamber in 2026. Absolutely speechless
I was heckled by another MP while asking about inclusive relationship education in schools

Sickened but not really surprised that homophobia is alive and well on the bench behind me

'They're primary school kids' he says - as if no primary school kids have lesbian or gay parents!

American Anti-Fascists are fairly pathetic really. They’ve spent a decade protesting about things and calling them Fascist. Now faced with actual Fascism they’ve hardly reacted.

Question for public opinion researchers/pollsters on here - is the link between actually observed crime and perceptions of crime weaker now than it used to be? Or are we just seeing and hearing more from those who believe crime is rising regardless of what's actually happening?
Looking forward to more extensive coverage of the civil war about to break out in our hellhole cities.

Enormously excited to go to Settle today to admire the novelty of Avanti West Coast services on the Settle to Carlisle line. This is my Roman Empire. #trains

It’s exhausting and boring, but because the wilful misunderstanders will be out in force some of us are going to have to spend a lot of time saying:

No, we do not like or support Maduro.

We like and support the rule of law.
Maduro is a brutal and oppressive dictator of Venezuela.

Trump has no legitimate legal basis for military action against Venezuela under United States or international law.

Both of those facts are simultaneously true.

Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.
