What is good leadership in this day and age? And what role do universities and the social sciences play in this? As dean of a Faculty of Social Sciences, I find myself in the midst of a storm of debates about internationalization and the future of higher education.

As part of my first week as dean I gave a short speech at the New Year’s reception last week, a tradition at our faculty. I wanted to create a bit of depth, but also wanted to give people a good ‘hook’ to approach me afterward. So I reached out with a colourful metaphor. tinyurl.com/35b8zxxm

Led by Anne Beaulieu, we (Kathleen Gregory, Matthew Mayernik, Christine Borgman) received funding for a nias-lorentz.nl/workshops/ on “How to evaluate emerging knowledge infrastructures.” KI’s pose challenges for assessment (eg they’re rarely duplicated, and plurality only exists within). Exciting!
