The RD moved the finish away from Hengistbury Head. Wise! Moors Country Valley park was actually pretty sheltered and the wind didnt really kick in until Holes Bay.

Nice course. Fab support all along the course. Recommend!

So... How was it?
It was certainly pretty wild. 😁

We had to climb over fallen trees. I was pelted on the head with acorns and sandblasted from behind by sand carried on 50mph gusts. The waves were wild and at one point there was icy cold rain. But I unexpectedly got a 50k PB. Hurrah! 🏅

Oh definitely, the fast ones will be going through around midday (or sooner), those of us slowcoaches will go through much later. Cut off at Hengitsbury is 5pm.

Yes, not ideal for the first half which passes through woodland. The second half is along the sea front. (thankfully heading east).

If I were RD, I'd be cancelling. But theres a lot of money in these big events.

They are stopping us short of Hengistbury Head though.

My feeling is that amber wind warnings always warrant cancellation. Yellow warnings depend on the terrain and likelihood of impacts. But how many races even have a severe weather protocol?

When should races be cancelled due to severe weather warnings? Not an easy question for a Race Director.

Yateley's damage was found to be related to a downburst, rather than tornadic.
The light was dulling, so I headed to the main damage area, looked at the trees, then headed to Sandhurst. The Eastbourne Free walkers have to make it to Sunningdale tonight. Good luck you amazing team. Safe walking

They were heading to Yateley. So was I and I knew how to get past the awful A30. So we joined forces.

I promptly lead them the wrong way. I fear they regretted their life decisions at that point. Anyway, we made it to Yateley eventually.
