Genuinely, as someone who plays several live service games I always have a checklist that's like
- Ask yourself if you're having fun
- Never have a "forever game", play or read or do other stuff alongside it
- Don't set paid subs to auto-renew
- Think about what you want, not what the game wants
- Ask yourself if you're having fun

"we used it as a placeholder" is the weakest excuse
The point of placeholders is to be OBVIOUSLY wrong
You do not use "good enough at a glance" as a placeholder, because you forget it's not final

Concord is a such a tragedy. So much gorgeous art, so many brilliant artists, and their work cannot be experienced in the intended medium. Maybe it was a terrible game, maybe the concept art translated poorly to 3d, but I'll never get a chance to find out for myself.
Sony acquired Firewalk Studios in Spring 2023 and shut them down today. Concord, a game the Firewalk team had been working on since 2018, is permanently shutdown. To pay tribute to the creators of Concord, here are some great concept art by Adrian Bush, noax design & Sheng Lam.

Concord is a such a tragedy. So much gorgeous art, so many brilliant artists, and their work cannot be experienced in the intended medium. Maybe it was a terrible game, maybe the concept art translated poorly to 3d, but I'll never get a chance to find out for myself.

I think Nintendo should lean all the way in on Samus getting quipped to the whole game. The nerd guy should die but the alien planet absorbs him and all the mushrooms on the planet should talk to you in his voice. They should ask Samus about her weekend plans. Make it a complete introvert nightmare.

this is so cart-before-horse to me. i don't accept that people's attention spans are shorter in a way that has to matter. the problem is that we keep thinking that and "complying in advance" with the imagined boogieman of "people not paying attention nowadays". nothing done in that direction helps

I think this is a pretty pervasive problem beyond just games, which a) is definitely an issue; b) is another element of it feeling increasingly asked to solve things that are tangential to or even sometimes orthogonal to “make a good game”.

I think this is a pretty pervasive problem beyond just games, which a) is definitely an issue; b) is another element of it feeling increasingly asked to solve things that are tangential to or even sometimes orthogonal to “make a good game”.

I'm going to withhold judgement until I can actually playing the game but I hope that Metroid Prime 4 doesn't have the American Quip Guy throughout the whole game.
