As critics do, I took a look back on my favorite comics of 2024 and reflected a bit about the year, including how having old eyeglasses affected my reading habits for the year.

Big picture, Trump took over the previously bipartisan planning for the country's 250th anniversary, with a car races and a UFC fight on his birthday, is using it as another way to shake down corporate donors, but is also spending taxpayer $ on it, without oversight, and is forcing feds to go along.

Good morning. The President of the United States was in the middle of the most serious child sex trafficking ring of the last quarter century.

He is referenced not a dozen times in the case files. Not 100 times. Not 1,000 times. He’s referenced 38,000 times.

I love how the Dude just shows up at the end of this clip.
America’s best-selling album ever, ‘Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975),’ just became the first LP to certified quadruple diamond by the RIAA.

The Eagles are also in the middle of a record-extending run at Vegas’ Sphere.

Now Don Henley is ready to call it a day. 🧑‍🌾

Can something be a retro review and an advance review at the same time? From 16 years ago, here’s my thoughts on @jefflemire171.bsky.social’s The Nobody, out next week from Dark Horse.

From the Archives- Jeff Lemire's The Nobody
Jeff Lemire's stories remain based in rural settings and contain a timeless quality to them, as if these places always have and always will exist.

Last year, I picked up the Beasts of Burden Compendium and remembered how good that series was. So as I was taking a bit of a break on the site this week, it made sense to go back and see what I thought of the original Beasts of Burden collection. And now I want to read it all again.
This review is going back about 15+ years but here’s a look from 2010 at Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson’s excellent Beasts of Burden: Animal Rights.

Classic Comic Compendium: DREADSTAR RETURNS is a welcomed comics revival

Jim Starlin's Dreadstar Returns is a very welcome comics revival story, one that picks up 25 years later without skipping a beat.

"ICE will leave Minnesota if you hand over your voter rolls" tells you everything you need to know.

This was never about immigration or fraud. It was always about rigging elections.

They don’t care. It’s not millionaires or their buddies that are being shot. They just don’t care.
This is an actual post from Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth: Praising ICE after Alex Pretti was killed, blaming the Democratic leadership of Minnesota, and writing that ICE is greater/better than Minnesota.

He is actively demeaning the people of Minnesota just hours after Pretti was murdered.

Reading this 8 year old story for the first time in 2026, it must have been signaling that we were on a slippery slope in 2018 but feels like a call to arms in now where it seem like we're battling the government on a daily basis.

“So when the legal drama gives way to an action-packed chase, you know what Alvarez is running from. But what is he running to?”

I explored Sammy Harkham’s Criclet’s #9 a bit, trying to find a link between all of the stories in it.
