This is called “chain refoulment” and it’s illegal under both U.S. and international law. And the State Department and ICE know very well what Ghana is doing and simply don’t care.
ICE deported a woman who owned a home in the US for 30 years. A judge banned ICE from deporting her to Sierra Leone where she had been tortured, so it deported her to Ghana, which kidnapped her and sent her back Sierra Leone anyway. ICE is part of this illegal conspiracy.

Same, I don’t think I think about my characters’ genders so much. Unless I am genderbending an older story, tho it also gets complex if they’re trans.
Since my MCs are mostly ace, gender is also different for them bc they’re less concerned with attracting the opposite sex.

I try to remember that gender is inflicted on us, and try to consider whether for that individual it's turned out badly or not. Cis, Trans, Adjacent, I try not to fall into the trap of starting with gender and working outwards.
