HORROR FOR WEENIES is such a labor of love, and Emily's prose in describing the films she selects is just beautiful. Very rare that a tastemaker has the chops to dissect and reassemble a genre like this, but she's got it.

Be welcomed to the ethereal music hall! A stringed aperitif is in order… do tell the Symposium what do you write, from where… and what IS, indeed, your wraithful visage for tonight?
#HorrorWritersChat
Art by Jelle Husson, featuring a haunted monastery of many sharp-tipped towers scraping at the midnight sky. The largest is in the centre of the structure’s roof, whose walls are painted white. The monastery is located above a hilly terrain of dark stone and dark green moss. A stony, twisting road leads to the monastery.

Question One

Come in, come in! The Phantasmal Symposium has just begun! Settle in the ruined music hall, and tell us – what do you write, from where, and in what ghostly visage have you arrived at our askewed doorstep?

Ghosts & haints exist wherever they're imprinted. It could be a graveyard or a lake or an abandoned house. Although my favorite haunting are the foresty ones & the unexpected ones, I do have a soft spot for orphanages. Perhaps because my grandmother was raised in one...

As a disbeliever in any thinness between veils, I like seeing authors find ways to bring ghosts into our world. Is it gas? Is it madness? Is it time travel? Is it an inter-dimensional insect infestation?

My wraith would take the form of a creeping fog. Spilling under the door and seeping through the cracks. Walls may slow me, but nothing will stop my terrible advance.

It depends on the ghost.

Just a spooky thing that makes you nervous: house, preferably a spare room.

A lonely spirit with depression: abandoned places that should bring joy — theater, cinema, an empty town.

Scary ghosts: Marching down Main Street, big as a house and hungry.

Good evening!
I write fantasy novels and horror short stories (as of now at least).
My horror is a mixed back of genres. I like to play with nature, folklore, and just a hint of dark humor (I'm Danish after all).

I'm on the couch in my PJ's, hoping to stay awake until 9pm..

I prefer the spirits of the folkloric variety because you can learn so much history from them.

Fun fact: a ghost in Iceland is typically a draugr or afturganga, meaning walking again. They're more of the zombie variety but still have their minds intact and often seek revenge.

As much as I love unique ghost designs by authors, I love ghost folktales even more. They have so much history in them, especially between generations. So much can be told about a community by simply how they're treating the (dis)honoured dead.
